Spurs left it late, but they finally completed the signing of Pascal Chimbonda (0000) from Wigan, confirming the deal as the transfer window shut. No detail of a fee, but Wigan say it is the most they have received for a player and it is believed to be about £6m.

Even if Lucas Neill buys his contract out tomorrow he won't be able to play for another club until January. The rules state that a player who is under contract when the transfer window closes cannot sign for another club until the opening of the next window even if he is freed from his contract whilst the window is shut.
