Exactly. I'm not taking sides but the way people pounce on Crouch for missing a few chances really bugs me. When Torres misses easy chances it's "bless him, he's **** hot at everything apart from finishing, it'll come...". When Crouch misses a few it's "I know he scored but he should be be sold - too profligate".

Give me a ****ing break.

We've got four quality strikers who know where the back of the net is. Some people talk as if they expect four strikers of Torres' quality in the squad. Well that's just not possible.

Pablo is exactly right - despite missing chance after chance last night, Dirk and Crouchie kept on getting in there, weren't afraid of missing more opportunities and Kuyt, particularly, got his reward after 80 minutes of frustration. That's what you want from any striker - someone who'll find the space to get on the end of things. As the old cliché goes, you'd rather a striker who's missing chances than not ever looking like scoring.

And despite those missed chances, they both scored. What more do people want? Do they want our strikers to be bagging five each?

We have spend over 35m on Torres/Crouch and Kuyt.
I'm just saying they should take more of their f*cking chances - particularly when they are on a plate for them - Torres or Crouch or whoever.

Why do people pick Crouch out? Both he and Kuyt missed about five glaring chances each.

Some people talk as if they've seen a striker, somewhere, who scores every single chance that comes along. I feel Crouch has more of an excuse than Kuyt as he's had virtually zero match practice but it's not a problem - they both scored and the team won.

we've been spoilt over the last 30 years - Keegan, Tosh, Rush , KK, Fowler and Owen. but have critisised all these at times.

The fact games only have about 3-4 goals in them but 20-30 chances must give a clue to goal scoring.

So last night we don't applaud the 4 goals we criticise the misses. FFS

As for one on one being on a plate, its a skill in its own. Its requires split second desicions and there is a still a goalie to beat.

Yes Toulouse were crap, but Kuyts goals last night were v. encouraging. The first one he got it out of his feet very very well, and its pleasing to see. I do think that if Kuyt did get in the box more, with that fraction of a yard he can be quite lethal, he just tends to roam alot..which to some i'm sure is a bad thing, but i'm sure if you were marking him you'd think otherwise!

We have 4 versatile strikers, with a good mix of ability, running on the shoulder and between the lines. All 4 strikers are versatile, powerful (maybe not Crouch), intelligent and SKILFULL, something we've missed badly.

nothing to do with Karma just being realistic - the worlds best strikers will miss oportunaties.

The fact ours are still poping up in the same positions shows the right mentality.

This is the way forward. One of the (several) major aspects of the downfall of Houllier's team was that he built it around a 'natural' goalscorer in Owen. When he didn't play we were in trouble, and if teams could mark him or play deep to nullify his pace, then we were screwed. There was one game plan.


Now each of our strikers and midfielders possess different threats, and personally I'm pretty confident that all our strikers can sniff out a goal. Kuyt and Voronin are very intelligent and run the lines well, Crouch is Crouch, he's difficult and always likely to get on the on of crosses, and Torres is , smart and lightning fast.
