I don't think that we'd play 2 holding mids against a poor Derby team. If Gerrard isn't ready I'd start Momo over Mascherano, he plays further up the pitch.

Uncannily you have just one difference in the entire 16 to my selection - that being Momo for Mascherano.

I'd like to see Masher & Xabi together and allow Alonso a bit more freedom and let him play higher up the pitch.

there have been threads on her created by some people who dont think alonso is up to the task any more. this is a perfect chance for him to shine again. when he first started playng for us Stevie still played deeper in the field which allowed alonso some opportunities to get further forward and to make the killer passes that we all raved about. since then, playing with either Momo or Stevie, Alonso is expected to stay back and be the defensive midfielder. fair play to him he does this and he does it really well but then he gets slated for not being as creative as he used to be.

give him a chance with Mascher behind him so he can concentrate on going forward and then i am sure we will see a display that makes Carheex shut the **** up.

I think our midfield lacks a bit of punch if it's only Xabi and Mascher.
