    Rafa Not Expecting New Arrivals

Rafael Benitez today revealed it's unlikely there'll be any new arrivals at Anfield before tomorrow night's transfer deadline.
The Liverpool manager admitted he has scoured the market to assess what might be available, but has decided he's happy with the squad at his disposal.

Reserve striker Besian Idrizaj has today completed a season long loan deal with Crystal Palace, but Benitez insists there'll be no major activity to report before the window closes.

"We were checking some options for the first team squad yesterday, but it's very difficult to find the right players this late. I don't think we will be signing anyone now," he said.

"Rick, Foster, Eduardo (Macia) and I looked at some options, but we decided we don't want to sign a player just for the sake of it. It has to be the right player and not for crazy money."

Despite continued speculation linking Peter Crouch with a last minute exit from Anfield, Benitez has once again reiterated he has no interest in selling his striker.

"There has been no bid for Crouch, certainly not before this morning anyway," said Benitez. "I have the same idea now as I've said before. I don't want to let anyone go. I've spoken to the player and he knows we need him."

So is the rumour thread closing till Jan?
    We come not to play.

I'd say Arbeloa has done alot to convince Rafa that we are alright at centre back till the next window atleast.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

    * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

Guess that nails the Boumsong/Baptista rumour nicely!

Quite happy with what we've got for now....

He has played there a couple of times, so yeah, I guess we could add Riise.
He is almost as slow as Sammy though, so i'd expect Arbeloa to get played there more than JAR.

Riise as centre back.......Shudders incontrollably!!!, his positional sense is bad enough when he only has the left hand side to look after. Playing in the centre he would only be of benefit to the opposing team

Where we will strike a deal with Real Madrid to sign Heinze for about £3m thus pi££ing off Ginsoak.... I could live with Arbeloa as cover till Xmas. He's played well so far
They've won the league, bigger stars than Dallas, they've got more silver than Buckhingham Palace, no one knows quite what to expect, when the Red Machine's in full effect!

Arbeloa hasn't been asked to help out there yet this season - Riise has.
                    I wonder if that's telling...

Arbeloa covered at centre back against Sunderland when Carra went off.

I wondered that too. It was a very curious decision on Tuesday night - when we had a left-back, a right back and a centre back all on the pitch together - to play the left back at centre back (Riise), the right back at left back (Finnan) and the centre back at right back (Arbeloa)....

I realise Arbeloa's case is slightly different given his versatility, but it was a strange decision nevertheless.

I can see no valid reason to use JAR at CB ahead of Arbeloa. The Waiter (apparently) excelled in that position for Depor, while Riise has appears to have nothing in his locker that would make him a good centre-back.

He's slow (okay, that never stopped Sami), he's WOEFUL in the air, he's poor positionally and he is hopeless in the tackle.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
