FLYNN AT THE DOUBLE IN RESERVES WIN

      Steve Hunter 22 August 2007

Scotland youth starlet Ryan Flynn scored twice as Liverpool Reserves beat Norwegian side Kvik Halden 5-1 on their pre-season tour of Scandinavia.

Flynn also set up Argentina ace Emiliano Insua to score. Craig Lindfield and Jordy Brouwer added the Reds other goal while Jay Spearing was outstanding in central midfield.

Liverpool Reserves manager Gary Ablett told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We played some really good football and scored five good goals, but we should have won by a lot more.

"We created enough chances to have won three games, never mind the one. It was difficult conditions as the grass was long but once we got to grips with that we did very well."

The Reserves are next in action on Thursday evening when they face Karlstad in Sweden.

HAT-TRICK HERO LINDFIELD SEALS REDS WIN

      Steve Hunter 29 August 2007

Craig Lindfield hit a hat-trick as Liverpool Reserves rounded off their tour of Scandinavia with a 4-0 win over Swedish side Karlstad.

Dutch striker Jordy Brouwer scored the Reds other goal but it was Lindfield who caught the eye with his treble and an impressive all-round performance.

The reserves start their season with a trip to Middlesbrough next Tuesday (September 4th) at the Riverside Stadium and boss Gary Ablett was pleased to end the pre-season programme with a win.

"The whole trip was very worthwhile and we scored nine goals in two games and could have got a lot more," Ablett told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"I was pleased for Craig to score his hat-trick and that will give him a lot of confidence going into the new season."

I went to the game against Kvik Halden in Norway. It was a tight first half but Liverpool dominated the second. Insua really impressed me. He looked too good for the reserves. Ryan Flynn also had a great game and was all over the pitch. Andras Simon didnt do anything all game. Jordy Brouwer needs to put more effort in if he's going to make the grades, but looked skillful. Hobbs is a ****ing big lad and did ok.

Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

            * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs
