    New Signing

Liverpool have beaten the transfer deadline to snap up the services of French youngster Damien Plessi from Lyon.

The 19 year old holding midfield player will be added to the reserve ranks at Melwood.

"He is a good player, big and strong, and we're sure he'll do well for us," said manager Rafael Benitez today.

"He's only a young boy with plenty of time to work on his game but it depends on his progress how quickly he can force his way into the first team."

I thought Rafa said that we shouldn't sign anyone today.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

It is a bit odd but I guess you can't count on all the players we have wanting to stay forever. Also at that age I don't see it being a problem having any number of players, there is little cost and hence no real risk.

I wonder whether some of the players who come in as holding midfielders won't be converted to other positions though. For example a reserve like Arbeloa who is a capable footballer first and foremost before having the obvious traits of a defender might easily have played as a midfielder at some point in the past. Other players like Carra have also progressed through different positions to their current preferred one.

I tend to think that people think that a players best role is defined at a much earlier age than it is in reality.

                      Who's this then?

                      From the Beeb:

                      1655: LIVERPOOL in/LYON out
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! More than four hours since a signing in the Premier League but finally ladies and gentlemen we have a transfer to talk about. Not sure who he is, but 19-year-old midfielder Damien Plessi has joined the Reds. If he goes on to big things you'll remember where you were when he signed. He's the bloke who snapped the boredom. S Sumra has texted to tell us this fella's the "new Zidane".
What have I learned, Mr Mackay? Three things. One - bide your time. Two - keep your nose clean. And three - don't let the *******s grind you down

As it's bold I assume a done deal?
                        Another holding midfielder...

                        And again...

                            Exactly
What's the big deal with have a bunch of young "potentials". Not all them will stay, not all them will make it, but if we get one Xabi or Stevie or Mascher or Momo out of them, it's a job well done.
Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.
