    Golden Boot?

    Slightly interesting fact:

Liverpool have not had an outright winner of the golden boot award since the premiership began! Owen was a joint winner twice and that's as close as we've come. It's expecting a lot from Torres in his first season but I reckon if Crouch played the lions share of games he's more than capable of winning it.

If Crouch plays the lions share of the games then we would have more or less no chance to win #19 and that's what counts.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Why would you say that about last seasons top scorer who has a phenomenal goal scoring record in europe and internationally? Do you think a high goal scorer give us a lesser chance of league success? i'm intrigued...!

If Crouch plays the lions share of the games then we would be more easy to predict because you can't play in that many different ways with Crouch upfront.

No golden boot, but Pennant won Golden Shower last year.

Sorry, just read the gay in PL thread.

Hmmm, that's a slightly presumptuous comment to make. Crouch has scored against all the top 3 teams and his record for in both European competition and Internationals is nothing short of exemplary.

I agree that we need "horses for courses" and Torres probably provides the most potency up-front, but "no chance"? Why do you say that AF.... ?

I disagree, not with the opinion that we should have a golden boot winner obviously, but that Crouch is the one to do it.
He wastes too many clear chances imo. Also, I think AFII has a good point - he tends to make our play more predictable.

I am pretty sure Rafa doesn't want us to play long balls to Crouch almost all the time when he plays, but it seems to me that many of our players, mainly defenders, look to hoof it towards Crouch when they can't see an obvious short pass. Naturally, a defender under pressure needs to have such an option, be it Crouch, Torres or Kuyt, but I think there is a tendency to do it too much, and it weakens our play. None of Crouch's fault, but still.

As for Crouch's link-up play, it often draws plaudits as he shows his great touch and technique. In my eyes, he often drops too deep with the consequence being increasing the time before enough players into the box.
More importantly, I think Crouch should use fewer touches on the ball in his link-up play, as this hampers our flow forward. I would like to see more one-touch lay offs and passes onto the wings, but this of course depends on the movements of others as well as Crouch spotting them.

Not meant to be a Crouch dissing post, but just got me into the groove on a couple of points I had about our Peter.

If Crouch plays in most of our games then our opponents will get it easier to adapt their tactics before the games.

Torres can be used in the same way but he offers us much more options than Crouch.

If his play is that bad/predictable/restricting then how come he was our top scorer last year and has done so well in europe/internationally? Either I've imagined all the goals he's scored our someone is over-assessing gameplay. "Someone" very famous and successful once said that "football is a very simple game".......the rest is history!

Could that not be said about any striker who starts consistently?

Again, I refer back to crouch's goal scoring record. It's one thing knowing how a team/player plays but it's another thing stopping them and crouchy can be unstoppable, hence his record. I think that kind of disproves your point.

They are not used to play against players like Crouch in Europe. In the PL the defenses are more used to play against that type of player.

I hate to repeat myself but.....if PL defences are use to playing against crouch, how come he was our top scorer last season? If you don't like him then fine, but at least have respect for his talent.
