Reading FC captain is an "ardent red"

Watched goals on Sunday and they had Graeme Murty as one of the guests. He was absolutely raving about how good Liverpool were. Didn't try and hide the fact that he was a self-confessed "ardent red".

I found it funny how an opposing captain can be so open about his support for another team in the same league Good man!

Just wondering how many other players made it so obvious that they supported a certain team whilst playing for another.

I thought it was quite funny. Claire Tom said we hear a rumour you are a slight red, he said it was wrong he was not a slight red he was an ardent red. When he was asked if we now had the team to win the league he said I hope so!!!

Saw that. He seemed pretty keen.

I remember John Sheridan, who was an 'ardent Manc' and played for Leeds - amongst others of course.

Let's face it, the vast majority of players must all have a team - we all start off as fans. Unfortunately most of us stay as fans.

I do remember reading about one or two players in the past who claimed not to love the game or have a team. Doesn't Agger claim to be not particularly 'into football'?
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

yes he does batty did at leeds too. Scott Carson has said he dd not particularly support anyone too. I find it strange in fact its bloody unfair! Those buggers who are not overly bothered about the game and poor us who are not good enough to be pros ...sod it

I saw that to. He was a proper fan and not one of these guys who say stuff like "Yeah, I supported tham as a kid." He was saying stuff like " I really hope that this year is our year, I'm delighted Babel has signed for us, Torres will be a great player for us, it's a great time to be a red." etc...

Yeah. Batistuta was the same. He said it was a good way to make money but he was never a fan of the sport or a team.

Read an interview with Batistuta once and he said that whenever a match or training had finished he would forget about football for the day, he even used to turn the TV off if football was on.

                          Found this:

And then there is the little matter of the Scotland international's boyhood allegiance to the Toffees' city rivals Liverpool - the team Reading manager Steve Coppell also supported as a boy.

Murty said: "I want to give them a good game at home because we didn't play well the last time. We gave them a couple of easy goals so there is that in my mind.

"And Liverpool fans always want to beat Everton. It's not a major thing but it is always in the back of my mind. I have already told the manager Liverpool will win the title but he's not backing me up so far."

"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

Batistuta was apparently ****ing talented at basketball, only started playing more football after he saw Kempes playing for the Argies.
