Les gems eh - probably the single biggest disappointment of old Gh's reign, & thats going some. We were led to believe they were the best 2 young players in the world. In the end 1 wasn't good enough (Pongo) & one had an ego only Paul 'The Governor' Ince could match. What a bloody let down they were.

Can anyone work out when he and Tony LeT's contracts end?

I remember watching the reserve highlights on the ESeason when they first came and the rave reviews they got. It was so excitiing

I suspect they'll eventually star somewhere and then walk away for free.

Don't think they owe us any loyalty really.

I watched that match. By and large, he was ****e.

              And I'm a Pongo fan.

They have a couple of more years.

Disagree about the biggest disappointment of olf GH's reign. Have you ever heard of Salif?

Pongolle has never done it in a Red shirt consistently. We should have sold him long ago. His goalscoring record for us is abysmal.

Diao was a big letdown as was EHD but with Les Gems we were led to believe they were 2 of the very best young players in the world. They were top scorer & player of the tournament when France won the under 17 World Cup. Lets face it, they've both been well short of the required standard. In short, a massive let down.

I actually think the two of them could still play well for us if they got a decent run in the team but I dont see that happening.

Everyone says Le Tallec failed at sunderland but I think a lot of that was down to the players he was playing with,at the start of the season he was playing well for them but they were playing so badly he lost all his confidence.

When I saw him playing for them he would start moves with lovely passes and get into good positions only for a sunderland player to give the ball to the other team,I think he would benefit playing with the first team.He played great against Juve and the only other games he played where when the rest of the team were playing rubbish like against crystal palce and bolton.

Pongolle didnt score a lot of goals for blackburn but when I saw him play for them he was playing behind the striker and the blackburn players were always looking for bellamy.I think he could have been a success if he had got a good run in the team.

That's the thing with a lot of his signings...He hypes the players up and puts unnecessary pressure. And he was VERY good at it.

Houllier is a master at selling/pitching ideas etc. I remember a French journalist working for L'Equippe(spelling?) went on Five Live and said that Houllier got that job at Lyon because he was so good at 'marketing' himself. There were a lot of doubts in France when the idea of Houliier was first mooted, but he was able to somehow convince the chairman that he had the ability, experience and credentials to manage the team (eg continually emphasizing that he won six trophies in the way only Houllier can).

I think thats a very valid point you make.
He did hype his signings up. Cheyrou was the new Zidane, Murphy reminded him of Platini etc etc.
Its just with the Gems, the hype appeared justified due to their performances in the Under 17 World Cup. This made their shortcomings all the more difficult to swallow.

                              Did Houllier really say that???

FFS, how many Platini's were in his squad?!?!?

                              Welcome to Est1892 btw.
