They had a specialist on the guardian site yesterday, saying that he could play with the injection but was putting himself at risk for more serious long-term injury. Having the injection totally numbs the toe, meaning that if any further serious damage is done he wont feel it, e.g. if someone stamps on it, and it breaks completely he won't feel anything for hours and won't know about it. Basically it's a huge risk, let along the irritation it will do the current injury.

Great post.Originally posted by Dhavlos View PostInteresting.
Isn't it funny that all the so-called football people (and by that i mean people like Neil Warnock and Nigel Winterburn) are saying he should have the injection and that they had it and it did them no harm, but the actual medical experts (with the exception of the England medical staff no doubt) are saying it's a bad idea and could do more harm than good?
The amount of pressure being brought to bear on him to take an injection to play is an absolute disgrace, adn no doubt the chief culprit is McClaren. And if he hadn't have done such a bad job running the team they wouldn't be in a position where they're begging Gerrard to have an injection to play. I can't believe they are going to take a risk with our £30m, £100k a week asset, so he can play 2 games for England and then possibly be out of action for us for up to a month.
I'm getting increasingly pissed off at this now.
PS if Redknapp has been in the papers/on tv saying Gerrard shouldn't be pressured into having the injection to play (as suggested in a post above), then respect to him. Takes a lot of stick on here, and rightly so, and I'm far from being a fan of his, but credit where it is due. Good to see someone not toeing the line of the rest of the media and pundits

And kudos for the "toeing the line" pun ...

You're not right, no no no.Originally posted by Pacman View PostRafa can risk him we pay his wages it's not double standards at all
Your not right Fredo my chum
If he is fit he plays.
If he needs an injection to play he's not fit and should not be risked.

He wasn't fit but he played against Chelsea and McClown can use that against him. He was badly needed then and even more so in a crap England team. Yes, we pay his wages but I think it's just a case of the whole thing being a mess rather than the England staff pushing him. I've touched upon some sort of agreement in the number of matches / compensation to be paid in one of my posts previously.

Gerrard couldn't train for 4 days after that yet if he plays with an injection for England on Saturday he will be expected to play again 3 days later. Surely you can see why Liverpool should have a big say in this?**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

I am disputing the fact that playing for their country is all down to the player as has been perfectly demonstrated by Carragher recently. The player's responsibility in that specific scenario is to listen to assessment made by doctors from both England and LFC and decide if it will be risky for the club and for him in the long term.
But still, it all boils down to how much passion he has playing for his country and wanting to help when his country is in dire need of him.
It's a never ending debate IMO and we should lay that to rest. It's not as clear cut as we would like, and the same theory has been tested when Rooney came back for England during the last world cup following his metatarsal injury.
Do you understand this perspective ?

And Rooney wasn't allowed to play until he got the all clear from the United Medical staff yet Gerrard has to bow down to the England medical staff.Originally posted by fredo View PostThey should I ain't disputing that honey.

I am not sure they gave him the green light back then as Fergie was spouting about the fact he was rushed.Originally posted by Pacman View PostAnd Rooney wasn't allowed to play until he got the all clear from the United Medical staff yet Gerrard has to bow down to the England medical staff.
This is all getting ridiculous if we're thinking of conspiracy theories now.

It's be sods law, Stevie will feel obligated to take the injection, play on Saturday, worsen the injury and be out for a lot longer.

If he's got character he'll tell them to **** off. But it can be easily deducted that he has character even if he plays when not fully fit.Originally posted by Parm View Postand it's not like the Isralies and the Russians wont try and go in a bit harder on Stevie is it?

He had to fly back from the England training camp for a medical examination by the Scum doctors. I watched it all unfold on Sky Sports News.
