Time for a rant now, I am an Irish man so quite frankly i couldn't give a toss if England win, lose or draw but having lived here for 9 yrs i like to see them do well. As for this Gerrard debate however i feel it really is quite simple, you see i work on orthopaedic hospital wards rehab-ing people who have mangled their bones...........IF Gerrard has this injection and plays it is likely to lengthen the length of time he is out injured for Liverpool. That is FACT! Worst case scenario is that what is now a tiny hairline crack could be completely displaced during a tackle or shot. That could mean a month in plaster or surgery, then time to get back up to match fitness after that.
Why the hell he has been allowed to even join up with the squad is beknown to me, its pure bloody madness. The consultants that I work with say this is a complete no brainer, Gerrard should not play, and definitely Not have injection. The whole thing is really pissing me off cause our captain and talisman may have to sit in the stands for weeks cause the FA appointed a dozy Manc tosser to lead the national team and he has ballsed up big time!! Stevie, don't do it!!!!!!

It should be Steven Gerrard alone who decides if he plays or not.

I don't completely agree with that.
He is an employee of Liverpool FC and his fitness should not be risked for his country and it is obvious that he is not fully fit so he should be pulled out of the squad by our medcial staff to avoid any further complications.
Doesn't matter whether Liverpool have cover or not he could end up side lined for months in what could a top year for LFC.

The comical thing is Fat Frank has been allowed to stay back at Chelsea whilst he rehabs and presumably England will then be guided by the Chavs medical team as to whether he will make it for the second game ........ doesn't seem like we ever had the option to continue Stevie's rehab at Melwood and they are completely ignoring what we are saying

Well he should be considering what's more important wanting to play one game for Ingerland or lifting the EPL at the end of the season because that is the reality of the situation.
So in this situation he shouldn't want to play.

I am no expert but I read HK's septic arthritis infection was most likely caused by playing so many times after an injection, both for us and Australia over a long time. Harry was lucky to be diagnosed when he was (on his return the next day to Liverpool, by Liverpool staff!). 1-2 days longer = career over!

I agree that, if England can't get past Israel at home without Gerrard, they simply don't deserve to be in the Euro. It might be a blessing in disguise, as it would probably get McClaren the sack and give the FA a chance to bring in someone competent in time for World Cup qualifying. If you ask me, the most likely scenario for England is that they will limp into the Euro, go out in the quarterfinals once again, and have McClaren to "lead" them into World Cup qualifying next fall.

I agree that Gerrard shouldn't play--for one thing, if he gets an injection to play against Israel, he'll get another one to play against Russia next week, further increasing the odds of aggravating his injury. Ideally, he shouldn't play until he can run without pain, but that's not likely to happen. If there's any silver lining to this, especially since we're powerless to stop the FA from risking our beloved captain, it's that we're ridiculously strong in central midfield and should be able to hold our own, even against stronger opposition.

What's more baffling is, according to the article Glove posted, McClown is likely to start AJ and Owen on Saturday, and Heskey on Wednesday??

Surely, on Saturday, there will be absolutely NO space behind the defence? Playing 2 midgets is questionable at any time, especially in a game with 11 men behind the ball.
