I think the days of having a so-called hard 'n' fast "best eleven" are gone. These days it's all about 'possibilities', and picking the right horse for the right course - and in Rafa I genuinely believe we have the best exponent of this. No longer can a manager take the "we don't worry about the opposition, we only worry about ourselves" approach.

No-one has made the left sided role their own yet. We haven't seen enough of Aurelio/Gonzales to say who'll be there come January.
As for the rest of the midfield; Pennant, Gerrard, Alonso is ok but against the tougher teams I think Gerrard would be pushed right and Momo would be in the centre alongside Alonso. This would provide a bit of extra cover defensively. Of course, that's as long as we go with two strikers and not one.

The keeper and back 4 pick themselves. Though Agger's now making a strong case which is nice to see. He looks like he's going to be a cracking player for us.
I still think we're better - in the big games at least - with Alonso and Sissoko in midfield. Sissoko's prepared to do the spade work while others can attack with more freedom, especially Gerrard when he's on the right. From this position he can either cut inside, or go wide and use his world class crossing ability. If either Alonso or Sissoko is missing he moves inside with Pennant coming in.
Not sure who I'd have on the left. Gonzalez is direct and has more pace, while Aurelio is more solid defensively, is a great crosser and takes a great dead ball. Gonzalez at home Aurelio away.
Kuyt and Crouch up front. Bellamy has the express pace that the other 2 lack, but I'm not convined he has LFC standard ability. The other 2 do.I hate Polanski

no I don't think Kuyt and Crouch make the same runs, I don't think they're too similar, I just think Kuyt and Bellamy will link better. I'd be happy with Crouch and Kuyt, how can you drop Crouchie at the moment? He'a a goal machine
rnm is funny, funny like funny haha.

This is our best XI:
---------Reina---------
--Carra-Hyypia-Agger--
--------Momo---------
JP-------Xabi----Kewell
-------Gerrard---------
-----Bellamy-Kuyt------
But I reckon Rafa would start this in a cup final:
---------Reina----------
Finnan Carra Hyypia Riise
Gerrard Momo Xabi Kewell
-------Crouch-----------
----------Kuyt----------
I think with our weapons we should at least experiment with three at the back. It allows Agger to play with Sami, and gets Xabi, Pennant, Gerrard, and Momo onto the team sheet. Up front is a crap shoot right now. I would really like to see Kuyt paired consistently with any one of the other three strikers to allow them to create a solid partnership. However, I suspect that Rafa with mix it up frequnetly in the attacking department and I afraid that could be a mistake. I think that scoring goals is about being out there every week and knowing that the manager has confidence in you to do a job. Its also about familiarity and many other things that only come from being out there. I think that our strike force has suffered both years under Rafa bc of this policy. I'm all for squad rotation in the midfield, but I think the back line and the front line should be the same every week.Custard's OK

Gonzalez is a much better player than Zenden and Kewell. He is a natural winger with pace and skill. I have no doubt that we will score anywhere between 7-10 goals this season.Originally posted by SCOUSERTOMMYamazing how many people think gonzalez has done enough to be considered in the best 11.18-5-7-8-3

Speedy G has some way to go before he can be considered first choice - same with Fabio. Gerrard to start in a notional RM position. It's my job to handle life and death situations on a daily basis. It's what I do, and I'm very good at it.
