The team we picked today was full of international players that should have been capable of beating Pompey who are a very tough team to beat, we just didn't play that well. I'm happy with a point and we have a very hard game in midweek away at Porto to think about as well.
People on here need to relax a little, a draw away at Pompey is a decent result.Kurtangled in the McFadden thread 16/01/08

For me it was a bad day at the office, simple as that. We started well and should have been one up after 20 mins, then we faded, for one reason or another. **** happens, but we've still managed to grab a point.

well if the team had gerrard and torres in the performance would have been betterOriginally posted by Harveybirdman View Post
Hang on a second here. Last week Pennant was being hailed as our best player so far.....today he is being lambasted.
Have no problem with pennant starting
People were saying Crouchie should get a start....now people are saying he shouldnt have been selected
He is not good enough to start in my opinion and shame how Rafa decided to give him his first strart against a defence that are not particularly mobile strange decision
The team that was put out today was not a bad team by any stretch....maybe Torres should of started but I would't of started Gerrard.
They had both just played 2 games in half a week, and have 3 games this week......Momo and Xabi are more than capable of taking care of Pompey. They are both world class after all, well last week they were:whatever
Torres should have definitely started and so should Gerrard we could have taken him off after 45 when we were winning, Tevez played for scum dor 90mins, sure masher could have been utilized. We needed Gerrards driving force from the start. Momo and Xabi are both great players, but this is one of our hardest games......a lot tougher than Porto or Birmingham next week.
Face the facts, alot of the whingers here are ****ing turncoats, they are the first to say i told you so when a player plays well, and then the first to grill him when he has a bad game.
thats the internet for you
1 pt at Pompey is not a bad result at all. They have proved to be a very difficult side to beat at home, just ask Utd
hence why we should have played Gerrard and torres
The team selection had nothing to do with this game....the performance was the reason we didnt win.

Crouch? He's a tree out there lately. Goalkeepers have him covered nowadays.Originally posted by Morten_nogamst_Pedersen View PostAnd what does other teams do when we play Crouch?
Leave one man for him.
But seriously though, max. 2 should be at the back defending against Kanu while we took our corner kicks, not 4!Torres Fan Club Member #2, Lucas Leiva Fan Club Member #1

I'm not going to get carried away with this result, just as I didn't get carried away when we pummeled Derby two weeks ago. It's a tough situation...a difficult away fixture, after an international weekend, and with a Tuesday Champions' League match to follow. We can criticize Rafa in hindsight, but I think we'd be singing a different tune had we nicked a goal in the end. Sure, Ferguson played his strongest 11, but he hasn't got a very deep squad and is dealing with a couple of injuries. We're supposed to have enough quality to be able to rotate players.
I listened to the game on the Internet...had to work today. It sounds like Alonso and Benayoun were poor, and Crouch did very little, which is unfortunate. Sounds like there was little to be proud of, performance-wise, other than Reina and Gerrard.
One complaint though...I am growing increasingly uncomfortable with Alonso and Momo as a central midfield partnership. For one thing, Momo seems to get forward much more frequently than Alonso, although he lacks the vision, passing or shooting ability to pose any real threat when in an attacking position (let's face it, his goal against Sunderland was a fluke). Furthermore, Momo's relative lack of positional awareness and tendency to give the ball away make it difficult for Alonso to get forward and provide any attacking thrust, as he hasn't got the pace to cover a great deal of ground.
On the other hand, Alonso seemed much more comfortable against Derby with Masch alongside him protecting the back four and breaking up the opposition's moves. Of course, Portsmouth are a considerably better side than Derby, but, I guess I'm trying to say that I just don't think Alonso and Momo are the most effective combination for us in central midfield. I'd want to have either Gerrard or Mascherano (or both) in central midfield at any given time.
Well...we'll need to pick up 3 points next week...

If anything we were lucky Pompey had 3 very good chances and a missed Pen.
Plus James didnt have to make a save in the second half, will take out point and win the game in hand and away will goWhen you feel like you're done, you are not alone........

I'll be in my cold, cold grave before I'm happy with LFC getting a draw with a no-mark club like Portsmouth.
That may or may not be fair, but it's the way I feel. They are not our rivals, they are not challenging for the same things that we are. We should beat them every time.

ARSENAL winning now
2 points behind, no games in hand. Shaggy?
