Exactly. The performance was lacking.....but its not that bad, we did still get a point.Originally posted by The Erectile Banana View PostBeing disappointed with the level of performance against Pompey isn't knee jerk or whinging, it's a valid opinion.
We didn't play well. Full stop.
Sure, we got the point, which is a decent result against a team with a good home record, but how many of our players had a good game?
Of course we're all delighted to be top of the league and it has been a promising start to the season but performances like this on the road are worrying as they echo our struggles of the past few seasons.
Its the ones whinging about the team selection that are doing my head in"When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah

In seasons past we'dve been done there 2 or 3-0. Ok we didnt win but a point is better than nothing. Portsmouth is always a **** of place same as Bolton. It just wasnt our day. Forget talk of winning the league, its to early either way. What we are looking for is improvement on last season and moving forward and if were up there in a few months then we can talk about number 19. Last season we got turned over, this season we didnt. I'll take that.
We have a squad that is chokker with quality players. We argue often enough about who should or shouldnt play. That team today, Rafa thought, and why shouldnt he?, be good enough to get points of them. In the end it looked like we were hanging on but we got a point.
Althogh we have had internationals, most of our team will have played in them, then before them we had played 3 games in 7 days, then the internationals, we play on Tuesday and then again at the weekend and so on so I can see why Rafa will have rested players. Gerrard still carried his injury and really, loads on here were saying he shouldnt just walk back into the side, then Tirres doesnt start, well the world and his wife was moaning about Dirk and then saying how great Voronin was and since Crouch and the Crow didnt really feature midweek it made sense to give them a run, now its the worst decision since, well since the last time we didnt win. Rafa cant win can he?
Idve loved to have seen Torres, Gerrard etc start but then they'd be playing again on Tuesday and then dare he leave them out at Anfield? Hell no because everyone would be maoning 'should always play your best players at home, rest them when we play blah blah blah'.
All comes down tothe fact that every season you improve on the one before. We have done that so far this season, we've even done it with a bit more flair at times. Ok we're all gutted we didnt win, but we are at the top with a game in hand. I'll have takan that at 12:44 and I'll take than now.Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie, put your hands all over my body.

I hope he learns his lesson, you CANNOT leave out two of our best players Stevie and Torres
When you feel like you're done, you are not alone........

Don't think you are mate, think you are right that the strongets team would have had a chance at a result.Originally posted by SCOUSERTOMMY View Postthe mancs also faced an equally daunting task, granted with less travel but arguably a tougher game. fergueson had his strongest team available on the pitch today. im a moaner or a whinger though so what the **** would i know
I just feel that there are some reasons for a poor performance and most of us would have taken a point at Pompey if asked at the start of the season.

Too many good players played below par today. Pennant, Crouch, Alonso were the biggest culprits. On a better day each one of those players could've won the game.
I don't think Rafa expected such poor individual performances when he picked the team. There's only so much a manager can do.
Also, Gerrard and Torres looked 70% when they came on.
