    Liverpool in for Nigeria starlet

Spurs, Liverpool battle for Nigeria U17 star Chrisantus
    tribalfooball.com - September 17, 2007

Nigeria U17 star Macauley Chrisantus has attracted a £1.5 million bid from Tottenham.
You know who says Spurs chief Martin Jol faces competition from Liverpool and Real Madrid, who made offers of £1m and £800,000 respectively.

Ajax are also tracking the Abuja FC player, who can move from the Nigerian club outside the transfer window as he is out of contract.

His agent Adam Mohammed is in England trying to arrange a transfer.

The advisor to Chrisantus and Mohammed, Chris Nathaniel, said: "There is enormous interest in Macauley. He's a special player. That's why there's a battle to sign him."

        Behold! Chrisantus, the goal giver

        By AFOLABI GAMBARI

Golden Eaglets striker, Macaulay Chrisantus, will seek to elongate Nigeria’s mastery of the Asian territory as he leads the country on the final effort to capture the FIFA Under-17 trophy at the Seoul Olympic Stadium on Sunday (today).

Nigeria had first won the cup at the maiden edition of the youth competition held in China in 1985 and repeated the feat eight years after in Japan. It will be interesting for the country to consolidate the history by edging the Spaniards in what promises to be a “Showdown in Seoul”.

No one carries for Nigeria the burden of promise delivery more than Chrisantus who has given no one any doubt that he is capable.

With seven goals to his credit, scoring virtually all with effortless ease, the lanky forward has promised to take another shine off Spain.

He set off early enough in the competition as a gunman, helping Nigeria to emerge as the only country that has not lost nor drawn any match prior to this final. But his arrival on the scene had not been reckoned until he registered three goals in the first two group games.

Christansus’ emergence as the most potent striker in the three-week competition has surely rubbed off on Nigeria. Spain will certainly feel the pain oozing from the feet of this Nigerian player.

Remarkably, Chrisantus has not worked for himself. Others worked for him, no doubt. But he worked for the rest of the team all the time. He epitomised this trait during the Thursday’s semifinal match between Nigeria and Germany. He scored a goal out of the three with which the Eaglets wrecked their European foes. He tried as much to score more. But he opted more to create a chance for others to shine. Notwithstanding that he saw his second goal disallowed rather inexplicably in the dying minutes of he match, he teamed with his mates to exact the comprehensive defeat on the Germans.

As the entire nation rests its hope on this teenage wonder, he can only explode, not only by increasing his goal haul, but also by delivering the cup to Nigeria to complete the Asian exploration, aforementioned.

Despite the ceaseless adulation that has trailed Chrisantus’ exploits, however, he has remained calm.

“I’m happy and proud with the seven goals I’ve scored so far, which would be enough for me to win the golden boot. Now the only thing left for us is to win the final game and lift the trophy,” he said.

“I know for sure that the people back home will commend me for emerging as the highest scorer. But I also know that they will commend me the more for helping Nigeria to win the trophy. In any case, any of us can score the goals. The important thing is that we win the cup in the end.”

One thing is certain: The Spaniards will look out for Chrisantus more than any other Eaglet. It is, after all, not for nothing that he has not only started in every of the Nigeria’s last six matches, but has also had seven goals, individually, to show for his appearances.

Sounds like a load of old bollocks. If he's out of contract, clubs wouldn't be bidding for his services. A set compensation fee would be decided which would apply to any interested parties.

Maybe Nigerian law is different to that in the EU - surely that would define who had to pay what to whom, particularly in the case of young footballers where it seems to be made a special case.

Can someone close the thread please

It's disgusting to speculate about a player named by the ***.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

watched him in the final Vs Spain.

                      Looks a likely type.

Nigeria also had this little lad, cant remember his name, but he looked sensational. The commentator mentioned that he is regarded as the second coming of JJ Okocha in Nigeria. Very tidy little player he was.

                        I was at the game.

He is a ****ing great prospect. Played number 9 for Nigeria but drifted out wide. BIG, STRONG, FAST, DIRECT, SKILLFULL

He also plays the offside trap like a pro.

He was 2nd in the game only to Fran Merida and he was just as good as the little lad that Harveybirdman is talking about.

The little lad had a shot from inside his own half that nearly lobbed the keeper. hit the cross bar.

If we sign Chrisantus I would be very happy.

Also to say that he finished as the MVP and the top scorer (the prizes that Pongolle and Le Tallec won seperatly)
