Quincy - I`m not one of Pennants biggest fans but I hold my hands up and say so when he`s had a good game. I thought he was rubbish today. So we will have to agree to disagree on this point mate.

AF2 - I agree with you that he had a bad game, but understand that people see different things in different players/games etc. BUT to suggest he doesnt care enough is absolute bollocks mate, One thing I could never criticize the lad for is lack of effort or commitment, in fact I think he goes too far on this score if anything and is a bit of a fault in his game that he goes too far in showing his commitment.

You know, people never seem happy unless they can have one of our players to hate. Kuyt is one of the current targets, a shame as he's a player who gives his all for the club and the fans. Pennant is another, a little more understandable given his past, but I feel a kind of pride in Pennant. He's come through for us, and is close to England selection - I think he's very under-rated.
I can understand campaigns against scum, useless players like Diouf, but why not use the wasted breath supporting your team?

Fair comments but I can't agree with this bit mate. For me he loses possession far too often, usually courtesy of yet another woeful first touch or a lack of pace ensuring he gets swallowed up. He doesn't retain the ball well enough for me (Crouch does this much, much better - for example, without being brilliant, he did this at Reading very well. He knits play together very well) and other than hard work and a good understanding with Torres, I don't really see what he brings to the table.

He's a passenger at the moment - a striker who, by October, still hasn't scored a league goal despite playing almost every minute of every game.

Good call. To challenge on all fronts we have to have another quality striker. It cant all be left to Torres. God forbid something happens to him and we are back in the pack. Kuyts lack of pace and ball control is not compensated by his goal scoring or goal threat. For all his hard work and passion for the club I'd rather him being a lazy git as long as he was scoring or creating goals regularly

Pennant has scored once in 60 appearances. Unless you count the pass to Yossi today, which required a fair amount of work to finish off and I think most people put down as an individual effort, he hasn't setup a goal since the 22nd of April in a competitive fixture. That's just not good enough for someone who, in Rafa's formation of two defensive central midfielders, has to be one of the most creative and effective players in the team.

As for Kuyt, he works extremely hard and that was never more evident than the Porto game where I voted for him as MoM because his tireless running, chasing down and tackling was vital to the draw, nevermind his poacher's goal. The problem is that Kuyt trys to do too much outside the box and when he does it usually doesn't work out because he hasn't got the ability to control the ball at pace or the raw speed to beat people. Give him time and he can pick a pass, for example his cross for Crouch against Toulouse was better than anything our proper wide players have done this season, but we can't really afford to have him dropping into midfield as it just leaves the other striker isolated.
