For a team regularly playing two strikers I think he's a great third choice striker and a decent second choice.

He wasn't dead at the CL final because I remember Kuyt saying how his father was at his home in Liverpool to watch the match. I assume it was after that he actually died then.Originally posted by leviathan1984 View PostTowards the end of last season sadly

Mate, I totally agree with your post.
Kuyt doesn't do it for me either. He's such a hard working honest pro but that's not enough at the highest level. To be honest I'm surprised he plays for Holland as he must be the least technically gifted of all the Dutch in the national side. His first touch is absolutely woeful. He never seems to threaten the opposition goal and if I was an opposition fan I would have no fears whatsoever if he lined up against my team. Kuyt's clearly a top bloke but for me he's not the quality we need.
As for Rafa's rotation policy, well I've been going on about it for ages now. The over rotating and the the fact that Rafa does not select our best core players for every premeiership game will eventually kill our premiership title hopes.

I thought you were 26-27 Niall. I imagine you started watching Liverpool around 87/88. I don't think Daglish was playing at his peak if at all.
By the way I agree with everything you said.

No league goals yet, despite starting the majority of games. The worst of it is he's barely even looked like scoring in the league.
When Rafa defended his decision to leave out Torres, he talked of their defending deep and Dirk being a 'good worker'.
That about sums him up.
His touch is woeful and it bounced off him all afternoon. First touch followed by a desperate sliding tackle. I couldn't believe he stayed on the park and, even worse, he ended up playing left wing. How bad does he have to be to be taken off?
Don't forget his atrocious heading yesterday (and far too often). That was about the worst performance i've seen from a Liverpool striker in years. He had a 2 month spell last season where he looked like he MIGHT have something to offer. But I'm afraid he just doesn't.Last edited by Nic83; 23-09-07, 02:41 PM.

Describe Kuyt without using the term 'hard working' - you can't! He must know where the goal is as his record of 70 in 100 for Feyenood proves that (although in a crap league). However he just doesn't look like scoring on a regular basis.
He plays a higher percentage of games than both Crouch and Voronin, and probably a similar amount to Torres. No league goals so far either. Last season he scored a few, but against the likes of Reading, Wigan, West Ham. Spurs Chelski to name another few.
Good 3rd choice striker, but we need someone a bit more selfish, that will stay in the box, let the midfield supply them with chances, and stick the ball in the net. Drifting out wide or playing deep isn't what strikers should be doing.

I will always defend Dirk im afraid, people are making out nowadays that it isnt important to work hard as a striker...Ask Ian Rush. I go all the home games and have done for years, and i can honestly say I have never seen any other player give as much to that shirt as Dirk does, he is never gonna be a prolific scorer in our league, he isnt that sort of player. But he harrys and chases the opposition making it impossible to play the ball out from the back. His goal scoring record playing as a secondary striker is actually ok if you compare it to say Bergkamp at Arsenal? He has 3 goals this year already and will prob get 15-20 injuries permitting, but people seem to want him to score 20 league goals...like the champions league doesnt count....He did score in big games last season, Chelsea, Milan etc. I think the potential of having 3 strikers get 15 in all comps and possibly Torres getting 25 in all comps is a good position to be in.
On the negative his first touch does let him down and he aint the quickest but he more than earns his regular starting spot, from where he is asked to play he doesnt get into the box often enough at the mo, but that needs to be driven from an advanced midfield, yesterday we didnt have a creative spark in centre mid, Stevie was frankly anonymous and we missed Xabi.08-09 Dirk monitor
5 goals (target 15)
3 assists also........

Torres works hard.
But here's the thing, he scares the ****e out of defenders.
Are you saying that the way Rafa uses Kuyt tactically makes him ineffective?I hate Polanski

[QUOTE=desertscouser;688817]No he is better than the English Heskey. I think he is more comparable to the French Heskey, and soon all Europe will tremble as the two go head to head.Originally posted by der_Fuchs View PostSo is Kuyt the Dutch Heskey?
