I think our main problem is our lack of consistent match winners. Gerrard, Torres seem to be our main ones, and whilst others are chipping in, its just not enough at the moment.
Players like Riise, even Agger can be on their day, but at the moment they're just not producing. Kuyt has produced some magic last season, his long ranger against West Ham, his goal against Chelsea to name a couple, but this season he's been quite average. Crouch hasn't been playing, and Voronin seems to go missing alot recently..Babel seems too raw, and Yossi, Pennant and Kewell (
) aren't goal threats.
Gerrard as we know has been average and Xabi and Momo just don't score or play as dynamically as say Scholes, or dare i say it Lampard who chip balls around and move very well.
We are solid defensively but going forward we seem to not know when to turn it on, or whether to pass. We don't slow the tempo down very often and show that bit of individual class and composure on the ball enough high up the field. Our attacking onus is more directed towards high tempo passing, rather than slow skillful play. We show it in flashes but just seem incapable of playing consistently fluently like, say , Arsenal for large spells.
Anyone think Riquelme could make it? or is he past it?Sack swinging like Dub-D40 on a door hinge

I agree - although maybe not on riquelme - i would prefer more pace. in gerrard and torres we have players to fear. Otherwise its very inconsistent goal threats from the rest of the team.Originally posted by wiwma View PostI think our main problem is our lack of consistent match winners. Although our central midfield is formidible its not packed with goals by any means. And when you have 2/3 out of 4 forwards that arent sure if the manager is 100% convinced they are great players, you aint in a good position to be a free scoring team - which premiership winning sides tend to be.
we still have a great squad - i would still request a more freescoring wide player (queresma did light he place up the other night) and id replace one of the 'other' 3 strikers with a player with some more pace. without torres we are pedestrian up front. i dont think there are any real jokers anymore though - paletta was the last to go.

I would replace these:
Benayoun: not sure why we bought him at all
Crouch: Should have sold in the summer and invested in a Huntelaar, Tevez or similar
Aurelio: Never fit, whats the point?
Riise: Good player and good servant, but our style of play has passed him now
Kewell: One of my favourites, so this hurts. He is out end of the season anyway, so hope he can go on a high.
Sissoko: not a bad player, but not sure what he brings, other than protecting a lead for the last 30 minutes.
Pennant: When I saw Ronaldo for the scum in Europe, it made me realise that we just do not have anything of that quality. Drop this lad and get someone in who can beat a player, showboat a little and shoot too. Again, not a bad player, but when you raise the bar, you have to know which players no longer match up.
The pleasant thing is, at least the value of the squad is higher, which should fund the replacement.

Hurts to say it but I can't argue with that assessment, especially if we look to play top quality football more often than not. I do love Kewell but he just doesn't ****ing ever play!Originally posted by Growler View PostI would replace these:

Would you straight swap Sissoko for Fabregas? I know I would..obviously everyone would, but Fabregas is genuine quality at Momo's age.
Also Pennant, I do like how he can hug the touchline, but he just isn't direct enough..he's direct in his runs but he just never takes men on, it's like he'll get a nosebleed if he doesn't cross it! He has talen he just has no composure in front of goal - something a Ronaldo obviously has. We need more goals from our wingers.Sack swinging like Dub-D40 on a door hinge

Yet another negative thread. Calm down, let's get a couple of decent results behind us and stop whingeing based on one bad week. A couple of 3-0s this week and none of these threads would have happened.I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

I wouldn't say Auerlio mate, especially as he is the best crosser of the ball (followed by Finnan). We actually need him pretty much as the rest of the squad can't cross the ball for **** from corner-kicks.Originally posted by Nic83 View PostDo we have in the squad that are not LFC standard? And by that I mean: aren't good enough to play ANY part, I don't mean not good enough to start.
I think Rafa has gotten rid of most of the dead wood now and one of his best attributes IMO is the way he gets rid quicksmart if he feels they won't cut it even if they have only been here 6 months, but there are still a few stragglers that should be shipped out.
So, who doesn't belong at the club?

Of the current squad, I wouldn't say any players aren't LFC standard, excusing any players out on loan, I'm not including any players signed in the summer because we haven't seen enough of them.
We were all pretty happy with the squad a few weeks ago, and a few draws isn't going to change my opinion on that. There's definitely a few players we could improve on, but I'd say all the current players are worth a place in an LFC squad. I don't get that sinking feeling like when I used to the likes of Traore et al with any of our current players, which is always a good sign.
The best time to evaluate the squad for me is at the end of the season, so i'll be waiting till thenThomas Hicks Senior

yeah, little Luis was great for this. it would have been fantastic if we had Torres and Luis playing together.
