We haven't played well since the international break, but don't forget the football we were playing before that - with the same players everyone is now saying are so ****.

The sooner Alonso and Agger return the better.

We weren't playing that great before the break. Look at the games so far:

Villa - we were lucky to get 3 points there
Sunderland - not a great performance, especially against a ****e team
Derby - we hammered them, but so what? most decent teams will this season.


Apart from chelsea, who we didn't beat, we haven't played any decent teams this season and haven't really played well yet. I'm actually really happy with our league position all things considered.

Just out of curiosity though, what difference will Alonso's return make? He's been out of sorts for a long, long time. Sticking an out of form player into an out of form team is hardly a recipe for success.

But it hasnt. The games with the heavy rotation we have won. We slapped Tolouse, we beat Reading, we drew with pompey. Midweek, well thats not rotations fault we played the worst in years. If it was down to rotation we'd have played like that every week for the last 3 seasons. Thise are the games in which 3 quarters of our roation has been in.

I think we had momentum after the 6-0 win. With or without the international break you shouldn't change 5 players in a side which just won 6-0. You build momentum. Or you lose it. It was clear to me that the Pompey game cost us momentum. Pompey were clearly there for the taking in the first half. They looked a little scared tbh. We looked much more alive when Torres and Gerrard came on. They should have started. You shouldn't hop off the board when you in the Green Room. With 5 changes we did exactly that.

Why rest Torres for the Carling Cup? Who cares about that cup? Play the reserves and if they can take us to the Semis start thinking about winning it. Just like Fergie did vs Coventry. Like Wenger did last season. Like every topside pretty much does.

Play the same four in the backline if possible.
Start Torres/Kuyt the next 5 games.
Rotate (softly) the wings Pennant/Yossi and Leto/Babel or whomever you might chose to play there.
Don't play Momo.

You are so close to being right. The big rotation has only come for a reason tho and its been in lesser games, like I have pointed out. Its not for rotations sake. Alonso/Mascherano were bonding well until Alonso's injury. Between Gerrard, Momo and Mascherano so far this season, mascherano has been the better player (even tho he has been very dodgy in the last couple of outings) so it made sense to rest him for Spurts given everyone thought Marsielle would roll over. Torres and Kuyt is our best strike option and yep, Id play them more often than not.
