The topic was about bringing 11 men back for corners so I casually mentioned that Roma left 3 men up front against Utd when Utd had a corneras they are obviously aware that Utd are strong at corners because they've already won 2 games this season from headed goals from them.

And it worked for them because they didn't concede from a corner.

Simple really if you know your footy.

There used to be a Liverpool fanzine in the early 90s called Another Wasted Corner. True dat.

I don't know why they never seem to look for a near-post flick-on, as it always seems to me that it's nigh on imossible to defend against if executed correctly. We tried a few years ago, as I recall, with Gerrard scoring against Tranmere from just such a routine. Suppose we haven't got a Gary Mac these days to put the ball in the right place (although let's face it, how difficult can it be to aim for a fairly broad area, just in advance of the front post?).

            Great point Zimbo

I totally agree -John Barnes used to be on the front post duty and when back headed it is nigh impossible to defend -in fact anyone who often does as a defender manage to head the deflected ball must have been out of position in the first place.

It seems to me you have 2-3 waves of runners all who should be fearless and detemined to actually attack the damn ball dare I swear "Andy Gray like".

Pro sportsman talk of execution nowadays and to me this is one area that coaches should actively work on -for heavens sake how many corners a game do we get!!!

Gary Mac's corners were mostly hit to the near post for the flick-on under Houllier. IIRC didn't Geli score an og from a Gary Mac corner in Dortmund at the near post? I think he did. Defending the second ball in the six yard box is nigh on impossible.
