    Liverpool 7 Spurs 0 1977....

...and watched us batter Spurs 7-0 in 1978. What a performance and what a team. There has never been a better Reds team than that one - maybe the '81 team with the additions of Hansen and Rush.

But the thing that struck me more than anything elase was the movement and commitment. Phil having to play Centre Half because Emlyn went off injured and Jimmy Case playing Right Back.

We need a performance like that against Spurs tomorrow. Not necessarily the 7 goals but the relentlessness and desire to absolutely destroy teams.

I wish modern science would hurry uo and allow us to clone Dalglish while he's still alive.

    Come on Redmen.

"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

I was 4 when they played this game and watched it on videos countless times.

You should rename your thread to 'That classic spurs game in 77'.

Lecter will tell you this was the best ever Liverpool team. I will add the 87 team to that list though and the 5-0 thrashing of Forest was a joy to behold.

If only the current team could watch these legends.

With all due respect to Lec, I don't care what he tells me- I saw the evidence with my own eyes. I'm old enough to have seen that side play regularly and there has NEVER been a better side imho. Better players indiviudally in certain positions - Hansen, Rush, Lawrenson - but never a better team. That Midfield had absolutely everything. Physical power, pace, passing, tackling, aggression, balance, shooting accuracy and power. That is the greatest midfield of all time in my book.

I was at the 7-0 game and it was awsome. I was also at a 3-1 game at Anfield which won us the league a few years later.

            Ahhhhh - memories......

There's the rub mate. Does Rafa actually want his teams to play like that as opposed to stifle them and hopefully nick a goal? If there's another mediocre performance tomorrow there'll be an awful lot of pressure starting to build. We've some very tough games coming up so let's hope there's a massive response from the lads. If not, it's time to start worrying.

I was only 1 so I can't really comment on this team, but the 87/88 team was the best I have ever seen.

Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge, Houghton, McMahon literally taking the piss out of teams. It was like watching the Harlem Globetrotters at times.

Won the title in the last week of March, that's how much better they were than the rest.

                    Heighway - What a cross

Last year he was probably the best winger on our books

I was there too. If I remeber rightly Hoddle scored a screamer to put Spurs 1-0 up, Souey clattered him and that was it..we took over and battered them.

77 was before my time, but that 1987-88 side is definitely the best team I've ever seen, and I'll always contend that it was probably the best club side in English football history
