Let Crouch go for circa £8m . Use Babel as 4th striker, then use the £8m towards a creative wide player...
I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

Surely we all agree there are better strikers out there than Kuyt and Crouch, so lets sell them both and improve the team.

He isn't a massively "prolific" and clinical striker, his career stats show that, though he is capable of adding a lot in all round play to the team too. He deserves a fair crack undoubtedly, but when he has played this season he has not really taken his chances and performed as well as we know he can. But talk of him being treated like ****e is rubbish; Torres, Kuyt and Voronin have all had their time on the bench so far this season, and as for being out of the match day squad, well Crouch has proven he is not a good impact substitute. I like Crouch, but some of the rose-tinted specs in this thread are taking it a bit too far, and I don't see him as any more a definite a starter than his "rivals" on current form at least.

Meanwhile, Dirk Kuyt, a player with goalscoring pedigree in his career so far, has gone from being player of last season according to this board's votes at least, to the ultimate donkey. Undoubtedly he hasn't been delivering quite what was hoped of him so far, but in the first few games of this season the partnership between he and Torres looked effective to me, and we were actually winning too. The lack of support he gets on here is shocking. Actually the lack of support loads of players get on here after a few dodgy games is shocking.

Best post on this thread by a mile, and spot on too.

Not much of a goal threat based on this season's performances though is he? In the games they've played so far I'd say Kuyt, Voronin, Babel, Benayoun, even Mascherano have been more of a goal threat than Crouch.

His performances have been so abject this season that there's no way he deserves to be anywhere near the team. At least Kuyt works his arse off for the team, Crouch doesn't even seem to be putting in the minimum required effort judging by his performances on the pitch. What worries me is if this is how he is going to react to every sign of adversity and every knock back he gets in his career. And if he is, then clearly he needs to go to a club like Middlesborough or Everton or some other mediocre mid-table side where he can be top dog.

Dhavlos, surely the sheer nature of rotation should mean Crouch gets a fair share of games?

              Except, he isnt.

Rafa's rotation policy doesnt take form into account when a player has a blinder, so why should it take form into account when crouch (or anyone else) is poor?

Im not knocking the rotation thing, but this is a fair point. It's my only real beef with rotation, regardless of form players know they will get dropped/picked.

The old adage of playing for your place stood us well for a long time.

The RCDNW brigade wont hear this.

Every other manager uses form as a guide, every pundit/analyst thinks it's the best way.

Sorry but they're not ALL wrong.

Torres is doing the job Crouch did last season and much more.

We play a quicker game now, well, we are at least trying to do that, and that don't fit Crouch playing style.

Crouch slows down our game more than Voronin and Kuyt do and both of them also links up better with Torres because they are quicker than him.

We can't use Torres excellent link up play if Crouch plays with him, we can do that if Kuyt or Voronin plays.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

                        short memory from Crouch.

Even shorter memory from some of you lot. He was top scorer LAST season.

The goalless streak was the season before.

that is a solid idea. Not sure who we could get for 8mill though. But there is talk of Rafa having 20mill to spend in Jan, an extra 8mill would really boost the kitty.

Kuyt won a lot of plaudits because of his hard work last season, something that masked his lack of real quality in terms of touch, finishing and pace which - like Crouch I guess - has come under closer scrutiny now Torres has arrived. This season he won MoM against Porto as much for his tremendous work after we went down to 10 men as his goal in the first-half.

I do agree about the partnership thing though, Crouch and Kuyt started something like 15 games together last season and we won 12, drew 1 and lost the other 2. His record with Bellamy was not so good, winning something like 9 of 20. Kuyt needs a target guy to play off to be at his best, otherwise he ends up drifting all over the place and far too deep into the midfield.
