He believed in him and yes, Crouch should be (and i'm sure, is) grateful for this. But his 18 goals last season repaid that faith and having done that, he gets chucked onto the scrapheap.
Well, you could have done an equally sarcy post the other way around...

Oh yeah Crouch scored those goals to repay Rafa didn't he not because that's his ****ing job. Rafa did something for Crouch no other manager might ever have done - he showed unerring faith in his ability and raised his game to a higher level, and what does Crouch do? ****s Rafa off for his rotation method instead of showing a little faith in the talent that made him the player he is today.

I suspect the truth lies somewhere between the two extremes. Crouch has reacted in the wrong way to rotation, that much is clear. His performances have been poor this season. When people quote his goalscoring stats, do they not see that part of the reason they are so good is he was selected only for the games which suited him and he constantly felt he had a point to prove? (The right reaction to rotation.) Sometimes I get the feeling that when Rafa feels he's getting a poor reaction to rotation, he is less inclined to field the player, which leads to a worsening of the situation.

I don't think anyone could seriously class Crouch as a goal every other game striker, regardless of last season. If you do, presumably you thought the same of Marcus Stewart, Darren Bent, Kevin Phillips and James Beattie after they had their best seasons? For me Crouch is a 1 in 3 man who doesn't pose a consistent goal threat, and does most of his good work outside of the box. Pretty much like Kuyt in that respect. Difference is Kuyt links better with others and doesn't moan about rotation.

Don't get me wrong, Crouch has been a quality player for us in the past, and still can be for us now. But he needs to alter his mindset. Either way, I think either he or Kuyt has to go in the summer for our squad to progress.

Great post overall. Part of the reason why there are so many arguments on message boards is that people split into two groups with contrasting opinions without admitting that there is a grey area where both maybe right or wrong.

Crouch is average. Tell me, in this current Liverpool team what does he offer? Kuyt is more versatlie, a bit crude, yes, but could Crouch play down the wing on either side the Kuyt has done for us? Kuyt isn't the quickest but Crouch is even slower, he's also a hell of alot weaker.

Peter Crouch despite being alot taller than most players still can't win a header when challenged. I was at the match on Wednesday and the amount of times he was beaten to a header by a Marseille player, who was smaller than him and was stood behind him. Infuriating to say the least.

            Yeah Crouch offers alot...
            I didn't say he offers a lot.

            But certainly more than Kuyt.

Ask Jamie Carragher, he said Crouch gave him as many problems as any forward he's faced in his time. Any defender would rather play against Kuyt than Crouch.

Back to Kuyt, why on earth would you want him to play on the wing? It's not his position. He was utterly shocking in that role against Spurs - which begs the question as too why Rafa used him there at all - so how is that a positive?

He was bought as a forward, to score goals. He hasn't done it for me. Now Rafas using him roles which he can't play - in the hole or out wide - and it's hurting the team.

Fine he works hard, but he just can't play, that's the bottom line. You'll never get anywhere at this level with a forward as poor as he is technically. At least Voronin and Crouch can trap the bloody ball.

Yeah Carra said that Crouch was the best striker in the Premiership (Probably forgot about Henry and Drogba when he said that). Personally I thought he needed his head testing.

People have different opinions and are entitled to them and agree to diagree most times thats why football forums were created so people can give their views and opinions and discuss them with other people who may agree or not agree.

Sometimes its gets heated because people are passionate about what they think, other times people just do it for a wind and really havent got a clue

When you feel like you're done, you are not alone........

On what I've seen so far this season I'd say Torres and Voronin have been our most effective strikers.

Crouch has been poor, Kuyt hasn't really kicked on from a fairly decent 1st season (possible 2nd season sydrome - if it indeed exists).

We could carry this debate on for weeks and probably still be debating over the same points. For what it's worth I don't like slagging any of our players off no matter how much I may have been doing so with Crouch last night. I guess I just find him a bit frustrating as you do with Kuyt.

I'd be happy to see both succeed but in fairness neither look like being world beaters at the moment. I just think that with Kuyt you know that no matter what you're going to get 100% from him. I honestly can't say I think that Crouch is giving 100% for us at this time. His head's dropped and he seems to have been looking for excuses other than that he needs to pull his finger out.

I think that the signing of Torres has opened alot of our eyes as to what we should be looking for in a striker and found out what we've been missing for a few years.

On current form I actually think that Voronin is deserving of a place up front with Torres and both look like they compliment each other quite well. Of the four I actually think that they look to be the best pairing I think they just need a run together.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on Kuyt and Crouch because at the end of the day the only person who's opinion that matters on them Is Rafa and it looks like he's made his choice as to what order he rates the strikers.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
