Why don't we do it more often?

Especially against weaker teams with reasonably average goalkeepers. I think we had two decent shots in open play from outside the box yesterday, one from Mascherano and one from Finnan which Robinson spilled.

I'd really like to see us shoot more often, rather be all Arsenal like and try and thread a ball through which 9/10 will end up being cleared by a defender. Gerrard hardly shoots anymore from outside the box. Babel, from what i have seen likes to, but he hasn't being playing much lately, and Riise long shots seem to keep getting ****ter.

On the topic of long shots, it puzzles me why Gerrrard doesnt shoot. He has a cracking shot on him, and like you said Nongy a well hit dipping long shot can create another chance for an onrushing striker from the rebound. Xabi, Babel and Gerrard should all be shooting more often

Riise should however not be given this freedom. His accuracy is terrible. Yesterday he could of sqauredit to Voronin...but no, he had to hit it on the volley, naturally spraying it well wide.

I totally agree, Riise should not be playing at LM for us, surely we have better options by now.

As for shooting from distance - last few seasons we've regularly been up there as one of the highest scorers of goals from outside the box. I always put that down to the sheer number of long range efforts we took thanks to us being unable to penetrate defences, as well as having a number of players who like to have a dip like Gerrard, Riise, Agger, and Alonso.

I don't think we need to be taking more really long range shots, but what we probably lack is working in edge of the area shots. When defences play deep on us we need to be better at setting up mid-range shots to force them to leave that tiny bit more space behind.

Any one else tear their hair out of the head in the 93rd minute when we were counterattacking and with acres of space on the right hand side all riise did was a poorly weighted pass to benny on the left gifting them possession.

it wasnt just ****ing riise that played poorly you know, jesus anyone would think the guy was a total ****er who didnt give his all like some of the other players, in fact I think he is one of the players who DOES always give his all, granted his all may not be good enough but by **** hes nowhere near as bad as some of you guys are making out.

Iwish we did, Gerrard Alonso Torres are the only ones worth it though. Everyone else would be better passing really.

We have a lot of Bentonas in my opinion. The skill of shooting from distance is to get it on bloody target.

I know I am going to get a lot of shtick but Fat Frank, even though he is a lazy ****, he always manages to get his shots on target hence the amount of goals he scores. I dunno but I see a relationship between shooting from far and getting it on target. If you get it on target the chances are, there might be a deflection, the keeper spills like yesterday and it ends up in the net or it is a goal anyway.
