Does Rafa need his own Ten Cate?

With the Chavs recruiting a new Assistant who is obviously good at being a No.2, do we need someone similar to assist Rafa?

Maybe if there was someone alongside Rafa with a more direct input into the team (similar to Ronnie Moran's role) our style of play may evolve quicker and better?

Just a thought... what do you think?

Well the way I see it, Rafa wants us to play a passing high tempo game but he just does not seem to be able to get it out of the players on a consistent level.

Maybe with an experienced right-hand man this side of our training could develop. Also the new guy may will have his own ideas and sometimes you can change the whole dynamic of a team with a minor tweak here and there.

I mean it is like Rafa is writing this great book, and he just needs someone to read it and give their opinion and comments. Ultimately it is down to Rafa but brainstorming someone (who Rafa has to respect) could be beneficial.

maybe its the 10 players out on the pitch that are the problem.

did we bottle it when we went to the top of the PL.

Fair enough but the way I see it is that we're doing nothing now that we haven't been doing at the beginning of the last god knows how many seasons; ie playing crap and dropping points left right and centre. We had a blip with the wins at Villa and (Home to) Derby that's all. The consistency of which you speak will return - no doubt when we're 20 points off the top of the league and only 4th spot to play for. Since we hit top spot - and we were bigged up in the press - the performances have dropped significantly.
The minor tweaks is another matter as surely Rafa has exhausted any tweaks that a right hand man may offer with the number of changes of personnel. And then there's Rafa's stubbornness (sp). He wants things done his way - and nobody else's.

a new right hand man would be a good idea alright..

he might even consider playing with 11 players??

..Is this the case? Has he stated this? I may have missed it but I certainly can't see it on the pitch.

I think any 'manager' needs a good team around hime so yes, a modern day Ronnie Moran (or old fashioned Pako) might help things along.

                        Mightn't, but it might.

                        A defensive mid for £18m?

We play great football at times, but then there is the tendency to just hit long hopeful passes and completely bypass the midfield.

Even Rafa critices the team when there are too many long balls! I agree about him being stubborn but I think there is too much for just him to cope with. An experienced assistant would benefit the team IMO.

i was thinking the same thing, he needs someone who has the balls to disagree with him and as importantly who has a different take on football, Fergie has Queiroz, Wenger has Rice, Grant has Tan Cate.
                              We come not to play.
