    Why do you support Liverpool......?.....

...and if they didn't exist who would you support? It'd be interesting to see how many local lads say Everton...

I began supporting them in about '77 after they came to my home town and walloped us in a friendly. Shortly after, I was given a hand-me-down shirt by my cousin with the "Hitachi" sponsor on (terribly itchy fabric!). I still have it to this day!
If they didn't exist I think I'd probably support Nottingham Forest - they were the first team I saw play I think. Or was it Southampton? **** knows - I'm just glad Liverpool DO exist if those are my alternatives!

I support them because of my dad.

He is from Liverpool had a season ticket and brought me up supporting the reds. If Liverpool didn't exist then again it would support who my old man did.
**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

I come from a predominantly Irish family (3/4 Irish - Irish blood, English heart) and my Mum has four brothers. They’re all Reds and used to dress me in the latest (knock off) kits when I went over to Dublin in the summers of 1981, 82 and 83. There are photos of me posing in Hitachi kits in the early 80s.

The first live game on TV I recall seeing was QPR v Liverpool, from the plastic pitch at Loftus Road. I think it was the Milk Cup – a midweek, night game (possibly even a Friday night?) – and I was hooked. I’m guessing it was about 1983. Live games on telly then were a rare treat. Kenny and Rushie were my heroes, obviously.

My Dad is a Chesterfield supporter who always had a soft spot for Liverpool since the Shankly days, and encouraged my Liverpool fandom, buying me kits, memorabilia and stuff, while at the same time taking me to Chesterfield games, home and away. He first took me to Anfield in 1987 (the season we signed Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge & Houghton) and took me when we played away in our part of the country…Sheffield Wednesday, Forest, Derby, Notts County (yes, kids, they were once in our division) etc.

I can’t possibly deny that the fact we were the most successful team in the country and probably in the world at the time must’ve made things a lot easier. School was a riot. A walk in the park. I sometimes wonder how things would’ve turned out had we not been quite so all-conquering. I did fall in love with the club though, as well as that particular side. I had all the videos…’Greavsie’s Six of The Best’ and other videos that documented our history….the famous footage of the Kop singing and swaying in unison behind that BBC reporter with the NHS specs. Hunt, St.John, Callaghan, Crazy Horse, St Etienne, 77, 78, 81. I remember watching Rome 84, and Heysel 85. The ups and the downs. A totally magical club.

Sorry for that stream of consciousness style rambling…

Born in Huyton, parents both reds.
I suppose I would have been an Evertonian if Liverpool did not exist. ***shudders***
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

As an Aussie living in Australia in the early 70's my mate and I while going top school used to buy shoot magazine (it was a weekly back then) He was a Leeds fan and I chose Liverpool, big rivals back then. We only got a weekly highlights show back then and the rest is history. I have followed then from back then and have never ever ever looked at any other team and never will!!!

These threads pop up now and again.

After watching our great team of 76-77 season, Heighway on the wing in particular, along with Ray Kennedy and Emlyn, and later Kenny, my dad, who for some reason supports Newcastle, decided to buy me a full LFC kit for Xmas, along with a pair of Beckenbauer Stars. That was it.

My nan got me into Liverpool. She was a mad red. She lived just off Queens Drive and I used to go to her house every weekend. When I was old enough she got my older cousin to take me the match. First match in the Kop, singing "Brucey give us a wave, Brucey Brucey give us a wave". He duly obliged, wobbly legs and all (I swear it was directed at me), that was it...I was hooked.

Born in Broadgreen; dad is a red and brothers too. No choice really, but it's a form of fascism I can relate to.

Suppose I would support Celtic if I had the choice of another team, or Sankt Pauli.

John Barnes. If I didnt support them i'd probably be supporting Leeds.

                              Same here.

One of my earliest memories as a Liverpool supporter was watching Aldo and Rushie stuff the Bitters in the 1989 FA Cup final.
