    Alvaro Arbeloa the lucky omen?

Just been reading an article and the only game we've lost this season (the Marseille match), was coincidentally the only game of the season Arbeloa didn't play in.

Okay so we probably don't really have a lucky omen, but he really has been a fantastic transfer, people talk about Sami being Houliers best value for money transfer, if Arbeloa keeps playing as he has been, it could be that Arbeloa is Rafa's best value for money transfer.

Would be nice if he really was a lucky omen tho

      Liverpool's Arbeloa delighted with form
      tribalfooball.com - October 14, 2007

Alvaro Arbeloa is delighted with his form for Liverpool this season.

No player has featured in more games than him so far this season, a stat in no small part down to his versatility.

"I am a right full-back and I play better down the right-hand side," he admits. "But now I am playing on the left and I am very comfortable. I am getting better every game and I just want to play. I will play anywhere.

"My left foot is okay. It is improving, it is improving! I just want to play."

He's been brilliant - absolute bargain so far.

He's also played in matches where we've been totally ****. So that must mean he's a lucky and unlucky omen

But we played ****, dropped points and are now behind in the Premier league and are seriously on the verge of being knocked out in the
Champions League - but not solely becuase of him of course. The point is, there's no such player who's a lucky omen. Pointless and **** thread.

I forgot to add that not only is this a pointless thread, it was also instigated by a double-barrelled knob Jockey known as you. You need to learn to critically evaluate players - I'm not saying Arbeloa is a bad player but he has made bad mistakes - giving away that stupid penalty againt Portsmouth, being turned inside out by Jason Koumas (but for their woeful finishing, they would certainly have got an equaliser against us) etc etc. He's got a long way to before classed as the best value for money signing. Rafa's best value for money signing's have probably been Agger, Alonso, Garcia, Reina and arguably Voronin. You could probably say Torres too but he cost quite a lot. In my opinion, he's a good squad player and nothing more. and I say in my opinion as there will be people who agree and disagre with me.

Got a bit of a chip on your shoulder haven't you lad

You need to learn to critically evaluate players -

It's not intended to be a critical evaluation, it was intended as interesting little stat, if you aren't interested in it then why do you feel the need to post in the thread. If i'd meant it to be a critical evaluation of player then i'd have said so wouldn't I.

I'm not saying Arbeloa is a bad player but he has made bad mistakes - giving away that stupid penalty againt Portsmouth, being turned inside out by Jason Koumas (but for their woeful finishing, they would certainly have got an equaliser against us) etc etc.

Course he has which player hasn't, i'll bet you can't pick out many more 'bad' mistakes, and certainly no more than any other player on our books

He's got a long way to before classed as the best value for money signing.

hence the use of the words 'could be'

Rafa's best value for money signing's have probably been Agger, Alonso, Garcia, Reina and arguably Voronin.

Voronin is no more value for money than Arbeloa, Alonso was 10 mil so i would expect him to perform, Agger, Garcia and Reina most definately have been value for money, but still both around 6mil. However, I know I said value for money and not 'cheap' value for money players, so don't bother picking up on it.

You could probably say Torres too but he cost quite a lot.

I think we'll be waiting a bit closer to the end of the season to judge Torres, but he's not going to go down as a value for money purchase as that price.

In my opinion, he's a good squad player and nothing more. and I say in my opinion as there will be people who agree and disagre with me.

In my opinion him playing everygame bar one so far he's more than a squad player, in fact it's blindingly obvious he is, and may succeed Finnan when he hangs up his boots.

now if you've got anything else go ahead, seems like you just decided to come here and start acting the muppet just for something to do on a Sunday.

I've got a lot more to say. First you say I've got a chip on my shoulder, yet you're the one who started off by calling me a "tosser" - that very mature mate. I only slagged off the pointlesness of the thread. So I retaliated against you, because that's my nature. I have to deal with ****s at work who are higher up than me and I'll retalliate against them becuase quite frankly I can and I will. I'm not an intimidating person, but when I speak out against people in person they do in general shut the **** up. Obviously forums work differently in that you can say what you want to people because you can remain annonymous (well at least that's what most people think)...

Anyway you say Voronin is no more value money, he was free and has already helped to change more games this season and contributed more than virtually every other player at the club except Torres! Now thats value for money mate.

An he may have played the majority of matches, but has he played all the matches in one position? Answer, NO. Hence the reason why I say he's a squad player. If he was that good, he's be playing the same position week in, week out. And also, his actual position is as a centre back and thats where he was playing for Deportivo - hence squad player.

He lacks poor positional sense when he plays on the left and is poor going forward on the left too because he's right-footed. I think he has good potential, and I think he could be a good player but I doubt he'll ever even recieve an International call up from Spain purely because he doesn't have a set position - he's good to cover positions, but is not yet good enough to play in the same position every week.

At the end of the day, you called my thread pointless and ****, thats how it started and while I don't really care what you think about it, it's only really going to attract one type of response from me. If that's how you go round in life i'll wager you get your head kicked in sooner or later. Point is, whatever you think of the thread there was no need for it, it was just an atempt at making a new thread on slow news day.

Anyway you say Voronin is no more value money, he was free and has already helped to change more games this season and contributed more than virtually every other player at the club except Torres! Now thats value for money mate.

I'm not saying he's not value for money, but I still think no more than Arbeloa

An he may have played the majority of matches, but has he played all the matches in one position? Answer, NO. Hence the reason why I say he's a squad player. Not quite the case is it, he played left back for most of the campaign so far because he was covering injuries and now many would regard him as the best left back at the club. he hasn't much chance to press Finnan for the RB spot because he's getting used in other positions, as he's a very versatile player. When we get a decent LB he may well take over from Finnan, we'll have to wait and see

He lacks poor positional sense when he plays on the left and is poor going forward on the left too because he's right-footed. Disagree completely on this even if he doesn't end up with a 'set position' (which by the way I think he will anyway), I don't see it as hindering his chances for an international callup, if anything it makes him a very valuable player as he can cover 3 positions, why do you think Carra got included in the England squad so many times. He doesn't lack positional sense on the left, compare him to Aurelio and Riise and it's like night and day. I seem to recall him scoring fromthe left side of the pitch last season after a nice little run so I disagree with you on that. His best position is still on the right, and in the future i think we'll see much more of him there asuming we can get LB sorted.

                              "Lacks poor positional sense"

                              So he's good then.

He's not poor going forward. He's no Alves but he's steady, and scored a good goal at Reading last season from that side when he cut inside and finished brilliantly.
