If he makes it, we may see him get the **** kicked out of him for as long as he lasts before departing on a stretcher.

Even though I've been impressed with how tough our kid has shown he can be, unless he's 100% fit, I wouldn't start him in this one. Not worth the risk IMHO.

I'm worried about the treatment he'll get if he starts, particularly if he isn't 100%.

If he's fit and he plays I think he'll give them a good few scary moments. This sort of match is set up for Torres and I could honestly see him doing to the blue****e what he did down at Reading. Maybe not score a hatrick but he could definitely still have as good an effect on the match.

Rafa must play the best 11 available to him on Saturday.

Fernando Torres signals his derby intentions

                  Oct 16 2007

                  by David Prentice, Liverpool Echo

                  Fernando Torres

FERNANDO TORRES delivered a welcome injury update to Liverpool fans when he declared: “I intend to be fit for Saturday.”

The Reds striker sustained an adductor muscle injury with the Spanish national squad on Friday and is receiving intensive treatment at Melwood this week.

He said: “I don’t want to miss out on the derby against Everton. I’ve been told how special the game is and I need to be ready in time.

“I’m very happy at Liverpool and I’ve learned a lot – I love being at a big club like this.

“I have played in big derby matches before. I played for Atletico against Real Madrid and I’m looking forward to enjoying something similar in the Premier League.”

Torres could be one of six derby debutants in the Liverpool ranks for Saturday’s 177th League clash between the teams – along with Andriy Voronin, Yossi Benayoun, Alvaro Arbeloa, Ryan Babel and Javier Mascherano.

But of that group, only Arbeloa remained behind at Melwood this week while the others are away on international duty.

Mascherano will be in the Argentina team which faces Venezuela in Maracaibo tonight, after playing in the 2-0 triumph over Chile in Buenos Aires on Saturday night.

Voronin, Babel and Benayoun all have European based assignments tomorrow night.

Steven Gerrard, meanwhile, looks set to step down as England skipper in Moscow tomorrow after John Terry came through a training session yesterday and looks set to return.

If he's not fit we still have no excuses.
We MUST beat Everton with or without him.
