If I don't count yesterdays' game, I always though Mark Clattenburg is the best ref in the country. I've seen him as a referee in many Chelsea and Scum matches and I can safely say that HE IS THE ONLY REFEREE IN THE COUNTRY who will stand up to those küntz - that means Rooney will get carded for shouting at him, Drogba will get booked for diving etc. I think he is the only referee in the Premiership who actually has cojones.
Hats off Mark, you da man!

Thats how I saw it at first - sort of a 60/40 pen, more likely to be given than not but Lescott was backing in. The more I see the replay the worse it looks but I still think there is an element of Lescott not trying to get to the ball which would have put doubts in my eyes.Originally posted by Tom View PostYeah looking at it yesterday it was a pen. My mate was behind the goal and said that lescott pushed backwards to make them both go down. Maybe that's what the ref thought.
I know it benefited us in the end but I don't think Clattenburg had a good game. He is however a good ref in general."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I think he had a pretty decent game, both pens for us were bang on and red card offences and were given as such
of their two penno claims, i've not seen a pundit yet say the finnan one was a pen (appart from gray but he doesn't count), the Carra one was differen't opinions were definitley divided on it, Lescott did seem to make more of a meal of it, but the ref was well placed to see it.
The only terrible mistake I thought he made was only giving Dirk a yellow for leaving the ground with his kung fu tackle, the only saving grace was that he tried to pull out of it, but by the letter of the law it should have been a red.
All that taken into account, it was a Derby and maybe he always had the intention of letting things fly a bit, knowing it was going to be a heated match and in all honesty it wasn't a dirty like some derbys i've seen.Thomas Hicks Senior
