If you have to play one of your best players out of position to do a job because what we have as alternatives aren't good enough to do that job - then that's the manager's fault for recruiting sub-standard players in the first place.

SG is one of the best team players we have - he plays everywhere for us on occasion - but he is wasted on the right - especially when we're 1-0 down and have have 2 def MFs on the pitch and a second-rater as the other "wide" option.SG did leave Finnan exposed today - but Rafa should have changed it for the benefit of THE TEAM - but he didn't. He did it for the benefit of Rafa Benitez to make a point, and left a CM player who was playing poorly on the pitch (Momo - who is below SG's standard) in order to do so. That is not in the interest of the team in my book. As it was we got out of jail Rafa looks vindicated - but not to me. All this is beginning to smack somewhat Houllieresque - which is worrying to me.
I see where you are coming from, but I think SG needs to try harder to perform the role that Rafa asks of him.

Lucas showed that he deserves to play more than he has done.

      Sell Momo and play Lucas.

      One more thing.

:bird: To everyone that at me when I said that Lucas can cope with the PL.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

So would I but we are Liverpool, we have had the esteemed pleasure of watching our title winning sides win in style. At this moment in time, we don't look like that however it is a wee bit of a slump which against Arsenal could be bettered.

The truth still is, we should have given them a hammering in the second half when they went down to ten but we looked like we lacked the creativity and then Leiva played up trumps with his passing. So the future can be good as long as Rafa doesn't make unnecessary changes.

And I'd rather have a lucky general than a smart one.

Who cares what the armchair critics and the self-appointed generals in the stands say? Results DO vindicate the manager. Everything else is hot air.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I don't doubt that - but equally rafa needs to play Gerrard where he is going to get the best out of him and for the team.

Don't try to teach your Grandfather to suck eggs, Ben. I'm old enough to have really seen "our title winning sides" not just on ESPN and, believe me, we didn't always win in style. The great teams of the 70s and 80s knew how to win ugly just as much.

At the end of the day, a win is a win no matter how well or badly you play. Unlike horse racing there's no consolation prize for the best turned out pony...

We used to win the league all the time because we used to know how to win when playing ****. Pretty much like today

Spot on Rushy - we could grind it with the best of them. But when we had the chance to put people to the sword, we didn't miss the opportunity.

If you want one word that summed us up: ruthless

What I'd give for that instinct in the current team and manager.

Yes but we as Liverpool fans expect more. A team who probably won't make the top six come the end of the season who were reduced to ten men, don't you think we could have beaten them more convincingly?

By the way, my grill is still beaming from that performance. **** you Bitter Kirkby ****ers!

I think Babel at this moment doesn't offer a lot to the team, unlike some other posters. It seems a bit odd to me that some people think he was good today. I thought he was lame - he could not beat a man and his crosses into the box were just pants. I wish he had some conviction to attack and get past his man but he did not show it. Early days for him of course, I just hope he matures into some player.
