I've seen every title winning side since the late 60s many from the Kop. We were known as a side that played as a team and didn't rely on outstanding individuals, some of the things that we used to get called were "shankly's robots" "passing teams to death", "the team that always passes backwards first" etc.

there is only one liverpool side that played with flair and that was the barnes, beardsley, rush/adridge team. But that was the exception.

I am old enough to remember these teams as well, although I did not watch nearly many games live as you did.

I agree with your comments above, however,I always felt that Shanks and Sir Bob knew how to set up the attacking part of our game very well, as well as the defensive, win ugly, "robots" side. The quality of our attacking passing/movement now, compared to all of the sides I can remember from the early 70' up to the Souness years, leaves a lot to be desired.

Would you, as someone who watched all/the majority of our games then , agree with this ?

I reckon that is what SG was supposed to be doing. Yossi was doing it well down the left, but as usual, SG decided he knew best and wandered off into the middle, leaving no outlet on the right and no cover for Finnan and completely unbalancing the tea.

It is a team game you know, Stevie.

If you heard Rafas pre match interview that seemed to be the exact instruction "Stevie is playing in the centre, he has freedom to roam".

So why is SG getting stick for carrying out instructions.

football matches, in my view, are won by playing the game the right way. the footy i was brought up with wasn't played that way for showboating reasons. it was played that way because its the most effective way for talented players to beat less talented players.

so granted, i'll take the win even if its a ****e one. but if you're playing ****e football every week, your luck will run out, and all you're left with then is ****e football without the sneaky win.

talented players have talent to rely on, not luck. luck doesn't last.

I don't think we played that badly today mate. We certainly didn't play hoofing football ala Everton, who bypassed their midfield at every occasion. We tried to pass it around, and to some extent we did it, without really glowing as an attacking force. That's why Crouch isn't playing much this season, as Rafa has shifted the emphasis on playing more on the deck and we've been guilty of lumping it with Crouch around.
