Mmmm ... didn't think Lescott deserved a penalty, he was falling and Carra just fell under his weight albeit grabbing his shirt. Call me bias but ... Who cares anyway, we beat these fcuckers and on the balance of play, they deserve nothing from the match. All their pressure came down to corners and set piece situations as they completely bypassed their midfield and concentrated in stifling us. Had we scored through Voronin in the second minute, we would have played much better with a bit more confidence. That's the thing lacking atm IMO.Originally posted by Morten_nogamst_Pedersen View PostWe sould have, but we didn't put 'em away, and noonecould have complained if they've had 2 pens IMO.

And about the last pen call. If you watch Carra's left arm, you'll see that his arm is round Lescott's left sholder, and it IMO more than indicates a penalty.

He still went down very easily as if he anticipated it.Originally posted by Morten_nogamst_Pedersen View PostIf's and but's mate

How do you know its down to confidence? Is it possible that Rafa spends all week coming up with a superb tactical plan that foxes oppositions completely, that it takes the opposing manager a good 15 minutes to suss it out and get to grips with it, then once he does there's no plan B or counterstrategy?Originally posted by Slinky Skills View PostBefore I get a few things off my chest I just want to say I'm over the moon that we won today!!
Right, I admit the performance wasn't great and haven't been for quite a while, but people should look at the position we're in. We're third with a game in hand, still unbeaten in the league and we hardly concede so I think we're doing pretty well imo.
My next point is that we started the game very well and for the first 20 minutes were much the better team, we were knocking the ball about well and attacking with pace, obviously after that we faded which is not so good. This is something that is happening in every game now, we start well but fade. As someone pointed out earlier the players confidence drops, this is something that needs to be addressed which is Rafa's job and he will sort it out.
It looked that way today anyhow.

Dont you think that besides that tactical plan it is important that the players play well and perform their duties. No one was protecting Finnan even with Lescott playing so forward. A lot of us were thinking that Rafa needs to change tactics at half time. Maybe Rafa was thinking, these guys are playing with the back 4 so high up the pitch and with 37 yr old Stubbs, we can catch them on the break with Gerrard's pace. And that's what happened. Besides the own goal, they didnt have a shot on target in the first half. So it was a calculated risk to take continuing with the same tactics.Originally posted by alunevans View PostHow do you know its down to confidence? Besides, its hard to imagine that anyone who knows how thorough Rafa is would think that he doesnt have a plan B.Play Outwar free webbased MMORPG here

I have no basis to say that my suggestion is fact, but its as reasonable a thought as mere confidence. Especially as whenever we are poo first half in games we tend to come out and be poo the second half too, which implies a lack of a tactical shiftaround.Originally posted by akjs123 View PostDont you think that besides that tactical plan it is important that the players play well and perform their duties. It may even be that Rafa is extremely thorough and thinks things through, but he may not be quick on his feet in terms of changing things during a game.
And yes, its important the players do their tactical duties, but Rafa said pre match that Gerrard was playing in central midfield with freedom. It looked to me like Voronin was dropping into right mid attempting to cover Gerrard whenever he exercised that freedom.
Finnan was exposed and had no protection but is that down to a player refusing to play to tactics or was it a failure of the tactics. According to the pre match interview Rafa gave, Stevie was doing exactly what he was told to.
And I'm not simply backing Stevie, I thought he was woeful against Spurs.
