Strikers, we need them so who?

Its obvious that Torres is only true class striker we have and shows the others up to be average at best.

Crouch looks to be off as he has not played much at all and the Crow is getting more minutes on the pitch than him.

Kuyt tries hard but as of yet has not shown me or most of the fans why he should be playing. Sell him off

Crow handy to have in the squad and thats it.

So do we go for a quick fix striker in January or do we wait till the summer?

I guess Anelka and Owen would be the one's we could get in the January window as they are with useless clubs and not cup tied for the Champs League.

Anelka is a quality option, for me. He's not been prolific of late but we know he can be, and he has all the right assets for being a Premiership top scorer - pace, strength, good movement and awareness, decent finishing. During his time with us he also displayed a good eye for a pass and an ability to bring others into play which I don't think he had when he left Arsenal. I think a lot of the speculation about his character is exaggerated, plus he is bound to have matured a bit since his days as a renowned sulk. That said, it takes a certain attitude to cope with rotation and there is a slight question mark over that IMO. I'd not be against us signing him if Rafa saw fit.

Owen - probably best to leave this one aside. Something to only ever talk about if it seriously looks like happening methinks

There's also of course, the option of buying a quality LM and putting Babel at CF, which I think I favour tbh because Babel's not quite been doing the biz at LM for us so far so its potentially killing two birds with one stone.

Anelka, McCarthy, Owen?, Huntelaar are all realistic targets in January id say...maybe Rafa will surprise us and go all out for another TOP striker...Id love a Torres Villa partnership....or Torres Eto'o! But the first 4 are far more realistic id guess.

Would I like another top quality striker at the club... yes.

Do I think its the most important position to sort out? No.

I don't think our midfield controls games with enough creative flair, especially in wide positions. None of Kewell, Babel, Leto, Riise or Aurelio convince on the left for whatever reasons. On the right, Benayoun isn't really a winger, and Pennant is a squad player, he just doesn't have the stature or goal threat really required.

A great creative midfield makes average strikers look good. Yorke & Cole anyone? However, a midfield without consistent penetration makes good strikers look average.

Torres has genuine natural quality. Kuyt does not, but he's a fighter, with emmense mental strength and a great attitude; I firmly believe that he will prove his worth for us, and that he can form a very productive partnership with Torres if our other issues are resolved. I would ideally bring in another to replace Crouch and form the primary partnership, but I'd sort our creativity out first or any more good strikers we might bring in will also look average in our system.

I think he is to old and costly for Rafa by now. If he is gonna buy someone in that age group it is IMO going to be someone like Raul. Someone who has been at the top for a long time and can be a good influence for the young players.

Rafa seems to go for the younger once, 26 seems to be the upper limit so I think Villa just misses.

I really like this Menez guy. Has great skill and looks to have a good head on his shoulders.

And while I agree that Anelka is better then what we have ( other then Torres ) I think we must and can do better.

Reckon we'd be okay with Babel and Benni on the flanks, but Babel's always on the bench and Benni's in and out of the team. Had enough for Pennant, **** him off, and as for Kewell? Well if he plays again with any sort of effectiveness I'll be amazed.

Really would like to see Berbatov in the Liverbird though. Him and Torres up top would be epic. Unstoppable.

Kuyt simply lacks skill IMO. Some times passing the ball to him looks like kicking a ball into a wall.
I admit he does well in some games but when the going gets tough and we really need quality he just does not have enough.

Villa to old at 26?? Not sure buddy id still take him we need a few experienced players in our team juts look what Gary Mac id for us.

Quaresma would be fantastic IMO is a proper winger full of skill and can create chances and come up with a few goals himself.

Benni for me isnt a winger he's a player that should be behind the front 2 not out in the wing.

Babel is still very raw i hope he gets a run of games to let him settle in more.

He's patently not an attacking midfielder. I still believe, played up top with Torres, they complement each other very well.

We have an excellent away record this season. And Kuyt has played in almost all of those games iirc. We have other players to provide the quality that should allow us to outclass most teams (and who at the moment, are not really doing so), but when we play "typical English" games we need players who'll fight too. And he will.

I thought he led the line very well against Everton in a game that is always a complete battle, and was unlucky not to finish the game with 2 assists to add to the his 2 penalties. WIth Torres alongside him, and a midfield pulling its weight, we could still be a force in this league imo.
