Not to old for me personally, but to old and costly for Rafa by now.

I just think if Rafa is going to buy someone older then 26 it is going to an absolute legend. Someone like Raul.

We have an excellent away record this season. And Kuyt has played in almost all of those games iirc. We have other players to provide the quality that should allow us to outclass most teams (and who at the moment, are not really doing so), but when we play "typical English" games we need players who'll fight too. And he will.

I thought he led the line very well against Everton in a game that is always a complete battle, and was unlucky not to finish the game with 2 assists to add to the his 2 penalties. WIth Torres alongside him, and a midfield pulling its weight, we could still be a force in this league imo.
No he is not and he is playing as a second striker. But for me he is not gifted enough a footballer to play that position.
He is IMO most useful when playing on top.

I agree that he is very useful in away games but if we added another striker at the same level as Torres we would not need all that battle because the added quality would make us a better team.

To put it simply I think he is a very good player and he was at the time a very good buy, but now we have different times upon us and he is not good enough for the Liverpool in 18 months time and onwards.

I have to agree with MrM on this. What we need is an attacking player of the same level as Torres if not better .
I don't care if he is upfront( as long as he complements Torres), left wing or right wing.

Berbatov, decent shout- can't see it happening in January. Maybe if we have the money, have a decent challenge this season, the Scum don't go for him and Spurs don't get Europe then why not?
Owen is more of a liability than an asset
Anelka has scored 5 goals this season in the Prem (correct me if I am wrong) he needs an understanding of rotation, would he have it?
The others are barking mad options: Zlatan (having the time of his life at Inter), Dos Santos (no chance after a decent run in the Barca side), Eto'o, Villa isn't as good as he was a few seasons back.
The options would have to be: Milito from Zaragoza- he's not the quickest but he is a finisher, 20 goals last season, can't be half bad. Aguero- playing with his former buddy at Athletico, is the next best thing with Messi in Argentina. Babel would be an option up front or playing 4-4-1-1 system with Benny playing behind the striker.

We have Bruna, Pacheco, Eccelston, Pourie. Surely within a few years, one of these will start, so the future of our strikers looks a wee bit bright, but its still early days.

Anelka for me all the way.

Put him in a set up that he is comfortable with and a club that he enjoys playing at, and he'll be a different player. I don't get the feeling that he enjoys life at the Reebok and I think a move to LFC would be his dream.

Failing Anelka I'd be more than happy with Owen.

I also go back to my belief that we need someone tried and trusted in the EPL, especially during the more difficult winter months

We need a better second striker to play with Torres.

Diego, Nasri or Aguero would be excellent in that position.

Diego would be my first choice. He delivers week in week out in Bundesliga. Creates and scores goals.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

He will move to Spain so Chelsea can forget to sign him.

He's not been prolific of late but we know he can be, and he has all the right assets for being a Premiership top scorer - pace, strength, good movement and awareness, decent finishing. During his time with us he also displayed a good eye for a pass and an ability to bring others into play which I don't think he had when he left Arsenal. I think a lot of the speculation about his character is exaggerated, plus he is bound to have matured a bit since his days as a renowned sulk. That said, it takes a certain attitude to cope with rotation and there is a slight question mark over that IMO. I'd not be against us signing him if Rafa saw fit.

Owen - probably best to leave this one aside. Something to only ever talk about if it seriously looks like happening methinks

There's also of course, the option of buying a quality LM and putting Babel at CF, which I think I favour tbh because Babel's not quite been doing the biz at LM for us so far so its potentially killing two birds with one stone.

agree with you about that all except about Anelka not being prolific, he has scored goals for Bolton and has started this season in good form. I dont think there are many prolific strikers about at the moment, seems as if 20-25 goals a season is the average for a top league striker.

Anelka starts every season the same, in a blaze of goals, before tailing off when he loses interest and the weather gets worse.

He's clearly a class act when he can be bothered but I don't think he's for us.

I'd like to see us buy a 2nd striker of genuine class and craft.

Oh how I'd love to sign Berbatov and Owen.

Torres, Owen, Berbatov and Crouch. there is a foursome worth the premier league. Both realistic targets too.

Spurs want massive cash for Berbatov. They were putting out figures of 35-40m in the summer, they have no need of selling remember.

IMO if as reported we have 20m to spend and Crouch leaves in jan for c.10m then I'd buy Anelka. Where the rest of the cash goes depends on how the season shapes up. If Kewell is back to fitness and form, I'd buy a right winger (though I'm not sold on Quaresma I don't know who else I'd get) and a centre back. This would give us the option of Gerrard on the right in tough aways with Anelka and Torres up front, or Gerrard in the middle at home with a winger and the two strikers.

A centre back is definitely required, though again I don't know who's available and not cup tied. If Taylor doesn't sign a new contract at newc I'd be keen on him maybe even Sol Campbell could be persuaded to have a final crack at a top club as a squad man, otherwise Rafa will undoubtedly scour the continent.

mario gomez, hes a poacher and would be the ideal replacmemt for crouch, if he leaves that is.

i dont think rafa will sell crouch and kuyt just one of them in the summer, most likely being crouch.

menez looks a good prospect, isnt he a winger though? someone creative like him, nasri, modric, zhirkov, diego would also be a great buy for us.
