decent sides, but unable to field one good one. That puts the 'good squad' theory down the drain. The best team we can field has three or four serious insues, no class wide men, no partner for Toress and no cover for Agger and Carragher. To address these issues you are looking at maybe £15+ for each position up front and £10+ for a decent centre half. Are we really going to spend this amount in jan. Doubt it. Another poor season ahead, then in the summer rafa can stop signing squad players on big money, and sign some top class talent that can go into the first team... here's hoping, I have been hoping for the last 15 years and still the same old ****...

I'm not sure you can level the no cover for Agger/Carra criticism a team selection. Sami is decent cover - if not necessarily capable of playing the number of games he is being asked to at the minute.Originally posted by IanTatt View Postdecent sides, but unable to field one good one. I think the problem with a lot of the areas highlighted is form of individuals or time needed to settle in. I think the only time this can be judged will be at the end of the season.
I do agree that we need at least one more quality attacking player and one more CB in the squad before it can be really thought of as complete in any way."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I think rafe wants to play a certain brand of football, ala Valencia. The type of football utd and Arsenal play, fast paced one touch football in the attacking third, which opens up tight defences, we are so far behind these teams it's untrue. Utd have shelled out on Rooney Tevez & Ronaldo and are now showing some great form. We have bought pennant benayoun and Kuyt for the first team and none are good enough. Only Wenger seems to get young cheap talent from abroad that suites his style. Rafa gets second rate rubbish. Remember Barnes, Houghton Beardsley and Aldridge, the team of the late 80s, a joy to watch, pace skill vision eteh lot of them and were successful. the team we put out is poor in the final third, thats whats so fustrating...

I think you are talking crap with the bit about getting second rate rubbish. The fact is that most of the young cheap players you describe have been at Arsenal for years before getting into the team. The comparable signings made by Rafa haven't had the time.Originally posted by IanTatt View PostI think rafe wants to play a certain brand of football, ala Valencia. I would suggest that in Agger we have got a very good deal in a young player who went relatively quickly into the first team. And Lucas looks to be another good buy - probably better than the similar amount Wenger spent on Denilson, or Diaby.
The difference has been that Wenger has had a settled squad created over years to which he has been able to buy one or at most two first team players each season for about 6 years, the rest of the money is gambled on youth. Rafa has been having to get two first team players for the amounts that Wenger has splashed on one for most of his time with us and started from a lower base line.
That is not to say that Rafa hasn't made mistakes just that I think your analysis is over harsh."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Only 2 half decent sides?? Rafa has fielded 160 half decent sides since he got here!!Originally posted by IanTatt View Postdecent sides, but unable to field one good one. Pennant is the best right sided we have, that says it all really. I think because we haven't won the league and had a great team for so long peoples standards are slipping somewhat. An average player is now a good player. Come on guys, we have some great players in the first team, also some average players, we need to spend on quality not averageness...

Possibly. But if Utd can win the league using players like park ji sung, darren fletcher, alan smith, wes brown, etc then surely our squad is capable of a league title!?Originally posted by IanTatt View PostPennant is the best right sided we have, that says it all really. In the first few games he came in he did very well. It is pretty clear that he can't handle playing weak in/ weak out but he is a good squad option.Originally posted by bobbyfallon View Postno he is not

..and not many players, let alone defenders, could volley/curl the ball into the top corner like Sami did on saturday - class finish!Originally posted by dww View PostIn the first few games he came in he did very well.
