Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I agree with every word of that, but particularly the first sentence!

Personally speaking, I'm not after Rafa to just simply go and win the league. I think it's a far harder task than that.

What I think is more realistic is to get us into the top 2. I don't think many sides have come from a non-top 2 finish the year before and won the league the next.

It happens, but its extremely rare.

So for me, what I want Rafa to do for us this season is to get us into the top 2. Once we do that we have a launch pad to win it the year afterwards.

If we continue to finish outside the top 2 then it's a fair guess that we're still another 2 years from the title or more.

Just wanted to make it clear that I'm not demanding Rafa wins the title this season. I honestly think that's a bridge too far.

But finishing top 2 is important in my view. His next job isn't the title but turning us into a top 2 team instead of a top 4 team. Once that's achieved he has created genuine title challengers.

The thread title raises a good question and one I can't answer to my own satisfaction.
Neil, Unusually your answer here makes no sense, you sound more frustrated than angry.

The only thing that anonys me is not whether people question this or that decision, thats what they are here for, but the constant private jokes and innuendos that litter each thread which bear no relovence to the subject.

Billy must be gay titter titter, so are you then giggle giggle.

Stop thread jacking peoples!!, leave that rubbish in the chat room.

My point was simply that I find most of the discussion in this forum incredibly dull. I really value people's opinions on things but I can't help feeling there's a danger of individuals putting too much faith in their own judgment. In almost all cases these people have absolutely nothing to go on except their own expectations/prejudices. When questioned about the pointlessness of it they defend themselves with how they have a right to their opinion which, frankly, isn't the point at all.

The point is not what right they have to express it but why it should be given any credence by anyone.

Still, according to Alun, I'm getting boring so I'll leave you to it.

What's the point of people saying they don't want Rafa out, but then saying they are sure he will never win us the league?

These forums aren't about arguments, they're monologues and both sides are guilty of it. Most who criticize Rafa refuse to accept those who praise him and vice versa, it's pointless.

There may as well be two forums, one pro, one anti, then everyone can congratulate themselves for always having the "right" opinion.

True enough - nothing wrong with expressing concerns with how Rafa's going about the job. I have them myself, and no doubt everyone else has unless they're members of the RCDNWB.

Admittedly I haven't seen many posts on here calling for his head but there are people I know who are calling for his head (people like my cousin, uncle, a uni mate) and to be honest I've been quite shocked by their impatient and somewhat fickle attitude.

We haven't won the league in 17 years. Yes we want to win it as soon as possible, but given we've waited so long I'm happy to wait another year or two to make sure we get it absolutely right.

It's not the waiting that's a problem, it's the concern that Rafa's methods wont win it.

We should all unite and give Rafa a chart on how he should play and how we should be set tactically etc ... We're more certain to be closer at the end of the season.

The football forum is the worst part about this site IMO. Too many people get on their high horse when there is a difference of opinion.

Football is all about opinions some may love Rafa some may not but when people start calling each other just because their opinions differ that's when the problems start.

I think people should respect one and others opinion and realise that the majority of the time you are never going to convert someones opinions to your own so you should agree to disagree.

Again people getting on their high horse about certain jokes that they don't like is just getting ridiculous. This discussion has been done to death now and it IMO is getting pretty boring.
