Spain. And, let's not forget, Europe also where he has been magnificent.Originally posted by Pacman View PostI really don't understand what you are saying?
How I read it you are saying that we can put United's poor start down to a blip because Ferguson knows how to win titles and Rafa doesn't? I'm not going to get into a debate on who is the better manager because I think it's fruitless and pointless however to say Rafa doesn't know how to win league titles is absurd IMO you only need to look at what he did in Spain.
We have had a few ropey results as have United and Chelsea but I fully expect the later to be in the hunt come May. I think people are forgetting we won at the weekend against our bitter rivals which is another 3 points gained.
We are currently sitting 4th with a game in hand on most of the top four and if we beat Arsenal on Sunday we will be right back up there. Lets see where we sit in January before writing off our title aspirations.
To be clear - what I'm saying is that to win the Spanish title (and succeed in Europe) might, just might, need a different way of playing football.
The longer we go without the title, the more convinced I will be of the above. The sooner I'm shown to be wrong, the better for all of us.
But let's not put off the debate until some randomly chosen time in the future when this particular seasons travails might be trotted out as flippant, trite reasons for our latest failure - if it comes to that.

Good point but we now have the spine of a great team which is something we have lacked previously.Originally posted by Icon View PostHow long have Liverpool been one player short?
Under Evans we had the match winners but we didn't have the defense. Under Houllier we had the defense but didn't have the match winners. Under Rafa we have got both the defense and the match winners but I think we are short one class winger/attacking forward.Last edited by Pacman; 23-10-07, 01:06 PM.**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

Yup. I think you are right. I was kind of hoping that Babel was that winger/forward though.Originally posted by Pacman View PostGood point but we now have the spin of a great team which is something we have lacked previously.

But I think we need one more pure class player in the SG/Torres category.--== Because the gang and the government is no different ==--

Frank.
We don't know what the future holds and so far we are unbeaten and one more league win this week will have us sitting very pretty indeed. I think your point about the Spanish league and Europe is a valid one however I feel we should at least see what happens over the next few months before we make any knee jerk reactions. A decent run would have some posters on this site having a large amount of egg on their face.**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

I have said all along that maybe, just maybe we lack more quality additions. But I'm not sure of that. If Babel fulfills his potential this season, and Benayoun keeps on improving into a better player, we may have enough to win the league. They all have the 'potential'. But Rafa don't buy many superstar players isn't it, apart from Torres who's the only case in point, IMO.

Rafa preaches the team ethic and for that alone, he won't buy prima donnas or superstar players. That's probably why he subbed Gerrard at the week end, as our game was too focused on him.

I don't think that was the reason tbh.Originally posted by fredo View PostRafa preaches the team ethic and for that alone, he won't buy prima donnas or superstar players. That's probably why he subbed Gerrard at the week end, as our game was too focused on him.
I think Gerrard wasn't playing the way Rafa wanted him to. He wanted us to control the ball in the middle of the park and pass Everton to death. Stevie was bombing on and leaving gaps in the middle of the park. He was playing with his heart and not his head and I really don't think it was Rafa making a point to Gerrard.**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

Surely its a place for opinions? different views?
Why can't people question Rafa without being abused?
Its getting very similar to the Houllier years, lines are being drawn and let battle commence. For example I already know whatever happens Tom will defend Rafa until the dying end and CAD will doubt him till its all over.
No one is right and no one is wrong. But for the record I was right on Houllier.
For the record I'm right about Rafa.
