The strange thing is that Kewell didn't play on the wing.

Could mean that Rafa will play him behind Torres.

I think that playing a fluid three behind one is a thing Rafa would very much like to do. I think that Benayoun is another likely member of the trio. I think Kewell would probably start on the left hand side to give balance.

I would imagine that as others have said one reason for his position in the reserve game was the desire to play Leto on the left.

Well, let's go through them one by one (yes, I'm very bored):

Martin - if he doesn't go out on loan and / or get sold to a lower league club in the near future, I'll be amazed.

Darby aka Generic English Youth Player - He's one of those solid, but average players and I think the days of those type of players given the time to make it in the first team are over. I don't rate him anyways - he lacks any standout qualities.

Kelly - First time I've seen him, plus he's still quite young at 17, so we'll see...

Huth - He was rather poor last season and made a lot of mistakes. We'll see if he can improve this term, but with San Jose, Kelly and Hobbs around, will he get enough games?

Insua - I think he's very good and would like to see him get a few more chances in the first team this season. Hopefully he'll get a run out in the Carling Cup. He's got very good technical ability, can pass well, decent left foot on him (although his crossing has been rather poor of late) and defends well.

El Zhar - Heh, he is THE stereotypical flair player. When he's on his game, he does some great things, but he's far too inconsistant, doesn't seem to enjoy playing on the wing (does his best work in the centre - remind you of anyone in the first team?) and at his age, he should be better. He'd probably be better off in La Liga, that is, if he makes it at all.

Plessis - He's new, so we haven't seen too much of him, but I quite like this guy. He seems to take the game in his stride. So far, his passing has been reasonably good, he's gotten stuck in well, but I'd really like to see him when we're under the cosh a bit to see if he can still maintain his cool, keep winning us the ball and most importantly, keeping it.

Spearing - Good 'lil player in the Gerrard mould, but he's just so small - it's very hard to imagine him playing in the Premiership.

Leto - I don't class him as a reserves player as he's clearly a cut above the rest right now. He's got a nice first touch, likes a dribble but really needs to improve his decision making and crossing. Perhaps lacks the pace to make it in the Premiership? I don't know, but he can definitely make it in one of the top divisions.

Lindfield - Well, we've talked about him.

Brouwer - At times he reminds me of Ibrahimovich, at others he's cumbersome, slow and annoying to watch. To be honest, I'm a bit put off this type of player now as I've had enough of watching them in the first team. I don't think he'll make it anyways.
