I am employed by a company. Do I have to be silent if treated unfairly, such as having inferior collegues given more responsibility? No, I don't. He hasn't once stepped out of line publically.

Depends on the definition of "unfairly" and whether your manager thinks your colleagues are "inferior". If he doesn't, and you've voiced your opinion to him in a 1-to-1, and he has a different opinion - then the bottom line is it's your manager's call. That's why he's in that job and you're not - that's what he's paid to do. You have 3 options:

1) You shut the fu*k up and get on with you job which you're paid for
2) You find another job
3) You carry on mouthing off, undermining your manager's decision, to the point where disciplinary proceedings are brought, or you are dsimissed for gross misconduct
