    Reds injury crisis mounts

Injured Liverpool striker Fernando Torres will be out of action for three weeks, the club revealed today.

A scan has shown Torres tore an abductor muscle during the Reds' 1-1 draw with Arsenal yesterday.

Xabi Alonso is also facing a spell on the sidelines after an X-ray revealed he had fractured the fourth metatarsal in his left foot during yesterday's game.

But there was better news for Rafa Benitez after an X-ray showed Javier Mascherano had suffered bruising to a foot rather than damaged a bone.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

It would be ludicrous if he doesn't start against Blackburn. I have a real good feeling that if Crouch is given a run of games he'll do the business for us. Rafa's just got to give him the chance he clearly deserves.

I thought that was obvious already.

            Absolutely gutted about the news.

Torres and Alonso are two of our key players, and having both missing again for the next month or so will be a huge blow to our chances of success.

I'm praying that both Crouch and Lucas now get the chance to prove their worth and abilities in their absence.

Terrible, terrible blow - both only just returned after a lay-off now they're missing for a lengthy period again!

Lucas, and especially Crouch deserve their chance now.

Yep, this is the thing, as soon as they're back they're injured again. Torres it seems was rushed back before he was fully recovered. This is the problem when you're reliant on key players and rush them back for key matches. But I think we have winnable fixtures coming up and I'm confident that Crouch will be an able replacement for Torres, if Rafa gives him the chance that on yesterday's showing he surely deserves.

Gutted about Xabi. Just hope he is back asap. Cartain players, as good as they are, are replaceable for certain matches. Xabi is irreplaceable in any match.

I'm more worried about Xabi's absence to be honest.
He sure did up his game yesterday. Maybe he has got over his (alledged) strop. I hope so, because he is a great asset when he's on form.

Eurosport are reporting Alonso will be out for three months. Is this accurate?
                    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I think that's a pretty accurate assessment of Alonso's recovery time, whilst it's not official. The club won't rush him now.

i'd say 6-7 weeks is accurate, 3 months seems like overkill to me

We'll see. I think it's pretty serious, unless it's an hairline fracture.

Was it the fourth metatarsal he injured the first time?
