Alan Hansen on Liverpool after the Arsenal game

As for Liverpool, there are plenty of positives they can take, not least that there is light at the end of the tunnel after their recent indifferent spell.

Fernando Torres was never fit, but their system looked good with Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano holding to allow Gerrard to do what he wanted.

Gerrard was fantastic and it was a performance Liverpool can build on - although injuries to Torres, Alonso and Mascherano are bad news for Rafael Benitez.

I still believe they can win the title although they must be regarded as outsiders. It is just a pity Benitez made changes against Portsmouth and Birmingham when they were flying and it took the momentum out of their season.

The performance was certainly an improvement over what had gone before.

I think we can be cautiously optimistic going forward this week.

Good performances & results against Cardiff and Blackburn will go a long way to restoring full confidence.

it's always better for us to be regarded outsiders i reckon. that team like to prove ppl wrong, don't they?

I think it'll be closer this year with all the so called 'big 4' dropping points which is our best chance.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Can't see Utd dropping too many points - their squad is too good. Arsenal will be f*cked if Fabregas gets injured. Chelsea will improve as the season goes on - Henk Ten Cate was a very astute signing. We are going to be seriously up against it unless we beat Utd in December and the other "big 3" draw when playing eachother.

One things for sure, if we don't sign a quality centre back in Jan we may as well conceed defeat now - Sami has been one of the best signings the club has made but he's not at the races at this level at this stage of his career. Not signing Heinze or an equivalent has cost us dearly with Aggers injury.

If we can take 6 points from Utd I think we'll be champions

I wouldn't underestimate the job Hleb could do if Fabregas does miss games. IIRC it was in the middle that Hleb established himself with Stuttgart, and he's no wide-man.

...."Any team that concedes as few goals as we concede is going to be tough to play against..." - Fernando Torres on Liverpool

And when I say 'play Gerrard on the left', I mean on the left

                    A defensive mid for £18m?

Chelsea will fall come January with the African Nations. Kalou, Drogba, Essien, Mikel. Big players in their squad

The ANC will have a big effect on Arsenal - Eboue, Toure & Adebayor and Chelsea - Essien, Drogba & Mikel.

All big players for them. Ourselves and the Mancs aren't really effected by the tournament so it could be a good opportunity.

You can especially see The Chavs struggling without the goals of Drogba.

Arsenal will be more affected by by the African nations than Chelsea. Arsenal will miss Adebayor, Eboue, Sagna & Diarra.

Chelsea have the squad to cope with it - Arsenal dont.

                              But we will miss Momo

and when I meant miss, I meant Rafa giving him a kick up the jacksie when going to John Lennon and saying 'take your time, son'
