apparently they were for meals charged to the club, not really sure how that works, but i doubt it's his everyday meals he eats after training
If the everyday meals after training were available to all employees they would be tax-exempt, in which case I doubt that the club would seek to recover the cost. If only certain groups of employees were entitled to meals, e.g. playing staff, then a tax liability would arise. The deduction could be the club's way of removing that tax liability.
