Injury-plagued Kewell worth £27M in Liverpool wages

Liverpool winger Harry Kewell will have cost the club a staggering £27 million-plus when his contract expires in June, it has been revealed.

Since the summer of 2006, Kewell has made only five appearances for Liverpool, all of them as a substitute and the Guardian says it is guessed that the Australian, with wages taken into account, might cost Liverpool £27m over the course of his time at Anfield.

However, he remains highly-rated by Reds manager Rafa Benitez, who may play him tonight against Besiktas.

"He was very good when he came on against Blackburn and he was good in training," said the Spaniard yesterday, "but it depends on what other players we have available."

      OK, for the 100000 time:

It is not Harry's fault that the club gave him such a high salary!!!
      Blame Parry and Co.
The injures are not something you can blame Harry for either imo. It is almost as some people think he wants to be injured...

Also, I reckon players are insured, so that we don't have to cover the salaries completely when they get longterm injuries.

And then I often hear about the MTV Cribs thing. Scousers ripping into him for being on there talking about his 100 000 bathroom.
Well take a long look at our Captain and his documentaries then first before ripping Harry for that.
Smacks of double standards all the way.

He was worth the money when we signed him, I actually though he was a bargain. I don't blame Harry for anything. It is not his fault he has been injured.
I think your right about insurance aswell, surely the club must have some kind of insurance to cover this, although i'd say its a costly insurance policy.

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

sure the club are to blame for paying too much but it was obviously the player/agent who asked for that amount in the first place...

I dont think he was paid to much, if there were no injuries his wages would be well worth it in my eyes.

IMO if he had stayed injury free, he would have been offer a longer more lucrative contract.

for what its worth I think Gerrard is a tit off the field, the type of lad I cant stand if he wasnt so good at footy. I can just imagine him hanging out in sunbed shops with his mates if he was crap at footy
