Not so sure about that mate. IMO Sami saw that Carra was sprinting across to belt the ball into the stands. Sami made no real effort to beat AJ to the ball cos Carra was there. Unfortunately Sami had no idea that Carra was about to mince about instead of getting rid.
Yes Carra messed up by missing the ball, but it was Sami's job to prevent Johnson from getting the ball in the First place. Carra was always the cover should Johnson get by Sami, which he did with too much ease. The original problem for the second Goal as with the First was Aurelio being out of position

Sami did prevent AJ to get to the ball before Carra. The only way he could have prevented him Aj getting past him would have benn to hold/foul him, which would havew been a stupid thing to do as Carra was in total control (apparently). In my eyes Sami had nothing to do with the last goal, it actually had the look of perfect teamwork between Sami and Carra, until Carra messed up.
Second goal was absolutely Carra's fault - you can't blame Hyypia for that. It was just one of those mistakes, which Carragher will be more disappointed about than any of us.

Players get turned all the time - Hyypia 10 years ago wouldn't have matched Johnson for pace. If Carra had done his job properly the ball would have been belted out for a throw.
I think with most goals there are a series of errors/mistakes and you can't just blame one player.
I wouldn't blame Carra or Sami for that goal, you attack as a team, you defend as a team.

Of course there is several thing that were wrong with the goal.
Gerrard(?) getting fouled.
Aurelio too far to to side.
Sami being to slow, and to far from AJ.
But we had several back-ups, and the last one work, until Carra missed the ball. Carra did an exellent sweeper job, but messed up.
It`s a bit like saying Reina wasn`t the only one at fault for the last goal as the defense/midfield allowed the Bitters to shut.
But on this level there are certain things to be demanded be players and our players didn`t deliver on Saturday.
Sami has never had any pace, and would struggle against Johnson on the turn, but for me, on the 2nd, he clearly holds back even - perhaps to ensure Johnson doesn't get an excuse to go down if their legs come into contact, but mainly becasue Carra is coming across and 99 times out of a 100 the ball is going to get cleared
The guy is a liverpool legend, but his time has come. Danny Agger proved that he merits selection in Carras absence, and he should come in for Sami.
Agger offers us creativity from the back, he is not afraid to bring the ball forward, instead of hoofing it upfield.
Its no coincidence that we seem to look better in attack when Agger plays....he draws players towards him, thus opening up room for our midfielders to exploit. Hyypia just kicks it to the first person he sees, opposition midfileders know he will do this....so they just sit back and let him. All the while clogging up the center of midfiled, making it harder for us to create "easy" chances.
sorry big Sami but you have to step aside.
In the last two seasons Hyppia seems to have a bad game early on in the season, people then write him off and he goes on to have a good season.
I always think he looks uncomfortable when he's not playing alongside Riise, Aurelio didn't help Sami much. Our left side was a serious weakness.
Our left side has been our weakness all season, At least the last goal didnt come from the left, makes a nice change this year.
Sami IMHO still has a place in the team against opposition without players like Johnson/Defoe/Owen/Baros?/Tevez etc, quick who will simply run by him. He didn't look dodgy against West Ham or Sheff Utd or even Chelsea.
The left back issue hasnt gone away with the signing of Aurelio (though it is still early days for him) I still dont feel we have a genuine quality defensive left back at the club for tough away games. They all lack the positional sense that Finnan possesses the other side. Agger can play there so why not give that a go?
