I think its getting obsence the amount of money being spent on potential. I dont mind forking out a few k for some lad around 17/18/19 as at that stage he should be showing more than potential. At the moment, including players out on loan, I'd say we could fill 3 reserve teams.... I am not blamming the club, its just the way football is going. everyone is afriad of missing out on the next Messi, Fabregas or Luke Chadwick.

You don't think they were in for Pacheko(sp), Dalla Valle, Astric, etc?Originally posted by JohnOK View PostRegardless of how good he is I hate how the Mancs always seem to trump us for players like this. They are always prepared to pay what it takes to get what they want.
You would probably find your comment in revers on some scum sites.

i know what you mean, but i think it's different from what it used to be, you see wenger has spent over 30 million on his kids. the setup has become part of the buisness, most of the kids we bring in here for 500K+ we can sell for more if they are not good enough for us, so i think most of the players we will not use will create profits...Originally posted by kopirish View PostI think its getting obsence the amount of money being spent on potential. Piet Hamberg was also recently, recruited as a Technical Manager to the academy and he had some extreamly interesting things to say.
he also want on to say in the interview that they where creating a school at melwood, so this would be possible at liverpool. now imagine if this is done how much of an improvement it would be, not only for the first team but as a money making machine, with this kind of practice we'll be able to train our youngster extreamly well that even though they won't play for us they'll have a great technical and tactical backround that the system could well be profited from...I think we should be looking to bring in young players from in and around Liverpool at the age of 12 years old and train with them twice a day. Within three years you will then reach a level that you've never reached before. We did that when I was in Zurich. In 2000 I brought 15 local players into the club. We trained twice daily because we had our own private school in the club. From this group there are now eight players in the Grasshoppers first team squad. I think it's important to bring the best players in from abroad but it's more important to train with the youngsters from in and around Liverpool twice daily and work with them. From the age of 12 they can have six years development here with us until they are 18 and then we will all be pleasantly surprised at their progress, I am very sure about that.
he also said that the only way he is going to be judged is how many youth players he will be able to bring to the first team, so that is still the main objective, something that hasn't happened in a long while...
another interesting thing he said which can be seen in the video on lfc.tv is that he doesn't care about youth trophies. none of the backroom staff do anymore, they don't even car about winning they care about teaching them how to play fooball, pass and move constantly, they don't want the to try and scrap a draw or a ugly win or to play counter attacking football to win, the only thing that matters is the football they are tought to play, and everything else is a bonus. they want everyone at the club from the youths to the reserves to the first team to play the same football, so the transition will be easier from level to level...
i believe this system will produce a hell of alot more good players than it has in many years, i think we will soon have the most exciting team in england..."I have decided to escape, to defy the shogun. Today I will begin walking the road to hell. But you will choose your own path. So, soon you may be seeing heaven. Choose the sword, and you will join me. Choose the ball and you join your mother, in death. You don’t understand my words, but you must choose. So… come boy, choose life or death."

From the BBC...
Manchester United have beaten Liverpool and Chelsea in the race for 14-year-old Burnley striker John Cofie and agreed an undisclosed fee with the Clarets.
Burnley rejected a reported £250,000 bid from Liverpool for Cofie this week.
But the German-born Ghanaian refused to return to training with the Clarets and they agreed he could leave Turf Moor.
Burnley have inserted a 25% sell-on clause in the deal, which also gives them first refusal on any loan deal and a future friendly match with United.
It will be three years before Cofie can sign professional terms at Old Trafford and the friendly game will take place within 12 months of that.
Cofie was signed by the Clarets last summer after he was spotted at a youth tournament in Germany.
"The player was unwilling to come back to Burnley so we didn't have a choice in keeping him here," Burnley operational director Brendan Flood told his club's website.
"He was going to go to one of the clubs chasing his signature and in the end, we all felt that Manchester United was the right option.
"He has a good future ahead of him and hopefully we can try and keep youngsters of John's quality at the club in future."Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
