IMO we need a quality striker like Villa unless Kuyt comes good and a pacy creative winger. Quaresma has the ability to produce that something out of nothing you need to unpick sides who play 9 behind the ball but i wonder if he could hack the physical side of the EPL? The ability to cope with the pyhsical side of the game is something I thought it would take Torres a while to adapt to-but he has proved that he is world class. I wonder if Paul Anderson is worth a punt on the wing if his form holds?
"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.
    The Future is Red!

We'd all love to have more of the type of match winning players you describe in the team. Unfortunayely they don't come fully formed with a label saying "match winner- buy me",so it's a gamble and you have to buy potential knowing that very very few will grow into the type of player you describe. It's not like you can casually drop into the match winners shop and buy in bulk or do a buy 1 get one free deal is it?

IMO SWP would be a far better choice then Quaresma.

He is probably quicker and faster. His touch and dribbling is just as good if not better. Saun works harder and is not a primadonna. The only thing Quaresma has on Phillips is he is taller, stronger. Now that Morinho is gone we are seeing the good old Wright-Phillips coming back.

IMO SWP would almost be a perfect RW for the Liverpool of Rafa.

I dont personally think it takes a genius to look at certain players and know that they're top class.

Thank God rafa's secretary got DJS's "please buy matchwinners" fax to Rafa, we would obviously be staring relegation in the face and a 1st round FA Cup exit were it not for DJS's flash of inspiration.

Exactly...and are we talking about 'match winners' here or just players who cost ****loads of money? Because most of the players being mentioned so far on this thread (like Stevie, Fernando, Fabregas, Rooney, Ronaldo) would all cost over £25m...and I don't think there's any team in the world that has more than two or max three players rated in that price range.

But if you're talking about 'match winners' who can win you a game with one moment of skill (a la King Luis), well we've already got another one in Benayoun and you could add to that a fully fit Kewell, so it's not as if we're solely reliant on Stevie or Fernando, they're just obviously world class players and any team would miss not having them in the team
"the correct decision would have been a penalty for us a red card for Gattuso and a yellow for Stevie"

                  LF Clove aka AFII 11/10/07

"i personally hold you and several other gob****es responsible for the chaos this club is in"

                  Revo on DJS

Stevie, Alonso, Kewell, Torres, Benayoun, Babel and probably Lucas if you take into consideration what he did in the derby.

I'm talking about world class, consistent matchwinners.

And yes, most teams dont tend to have more than 2 or 3 perhaps. Likewise though, the managers of most teams dont decide to randomly leave them out, either.

Giggs is nowhere near to being a consistent world class matchwinner anymore. Neither is Scholes.

They have 3, i would say.
