Also, no need to refer to Houllier as "the Frenchman" in the original post. St. John was stupid to do it. I know Houllier isn't exactly flavour of the month with us, but come on Michael mate, it's not very nice
what a load of bollocks. was the greasy little weasel not from france? then he is a frenchman. st john was not wrong to say it at all. what would you rather he'd have called him? that arrogant garlic munching cuntfacebollockchewing gentleman that excluded past players from being involved on a match day?

Sami hoofing/chipping the ball straight to the opposition is well annoying, he has got decent ball skills but neither he or Carra are at the level of Hansen or even Agger.

When Sami and Carra play together building from the back is not a strength, watching the scum bags, Rio Ferdinand is pushed right up the field, when attacking he sometimes is right next to the ginger toss pot Scholes.

Don't understand why carra has bad distribution the guy started in midfield.
      We come not to play.

St John was being a right bitter tw@t when GH was around. Just thought it really took the shine off an otherwise LFC legend. Dont know why he done it really. If he hated GH then he should have just risen above it with decent criticism of what GH was doing. Refusing to call Houllier by his name made St John sound pretty stupid IMO.

its immaterial now, he was bitter with GH and that was his chosen response. not great or imaginative but better than some plausabile replys.

back to the subject in point, I find it frustrating watching Sami chip the ball up 60 yards straight through to the keeper or for a goal kick. Must happen 6 or 7 times a game. Whereas Carra tends to go sideways or backwards but does retain possession more often than not. I think the real problem is that we still don't move as a team, where are the triangles like arsenal or Utd have? you should always have at least two options. We are still very stactic and thus the ball gets booted forward in a 50/50 challenge.

Reina wastes it too often too with Hollywood quick kick outs that rarely get to the intended man and if they do he's got two or three round him. Patience is the key.

As for the joker that says the team will be better without Carra, FFS what planet are you on? Job description = defender ie defend your goal at all costs. **** your fancy dans like Rio Up the Arse Ferdinand.

I´m not saying I know who to replace him with. I´m just saying that when Rafa does replace him the team will on the whole be stronger.

Having said that, I love Carra. He is for me correctly called Mr. Liverpool

when you say stronger you mean a better passing unit? thats great but if we're letting in goals at the other end its pointless. When Carra goes there will be a massive void to fill, one that may take years to sort out.

Carras form will come back with the return of Agger, imo he hasn't got full confidence in Sami.

Btw i think Samis been great since the Everton game.

Why is it a given that we will start letting goals? I think Rafa can spot a good defender when he sees one.

i trust rafa to find us a good replacement for carra. he needs to replace an extreamly good player defensively and it is a very hard task. but no doubt that rafa like all the players he buys are very comfortable on the ball, and even though carras replacement might not have his heart, and might not be as much of a no nonsense player, he might fit better in the team. carra is extreamly uncomfortable on the ball, and that often limits us when we are building up out attack, it's funny to think that our goalie is more comfortable on the ball than the central defender. i love carra to bits and there isn't a defender i'd swap him with in the world, but when the time comes in a few years to replace him we might not do so badly than to buy one that can defend and contribute something to the attack like agger does...

Carra has at least 6 years left in him. No need to worry about replacements just yet.

Carra is our best defender and first name on the team sheet. FACT

He's got plenty of time - Rafa need not start looking for a replacement for a few years yet.

He's not been this season. Agger is more complete and Arbeloa has been better.

                            Spot on.

Defenders, especially centre halves, defend first and play second.

Sure it would be nice to have 2 ball playing centre halves back there who can also properly defend, but realistically, how many of them are there about?

You need 1 ball playing CH who attacks the ball (Agger/Hyypia) and 1 stopper/sweeper (Carra/????). Anything else would be unbalanced and leave us to open.

Yes, Carra has made some mistakes this season but he has stilled played well. If he had been that bad we would not still be unbeaten in the league. When he has played poorly it has generally been when the whole team has played poorly. He adds more than just defending, his passion drives the team forward. He is key.

Carra and Agger are the perfect pairing. The brutish drive and no nonsense defending of Carra combined with the footballing brain and technique of Agger. Delicious.
