TBH if Carra can find the holding midfielder / ball playing CH 80% of time time and we can win the second ball on his hoofs 1/3 of the time. Then the negative impact is minimal.

Can't disagree with that.Originally posted by captainfog View PostYes, Carra has made some mistakes this season but he has stilled played well. If he had been that bad we would not still be unbeaten in the league. When he has played poorly it has generally been when the whole team has played poorly. He adds more than just defending, his passion drives the team forward. He is key.
Carra and Agger are the perfect pairing. The brutish drive and no nonsense defending of Carra combined with the footballing brain and technique of Agger. Delicious.
I would add though that he was SOOO good the last couple of years that it has kind of exaggagerated his difficulties this season. The Crushing Machine MKII

Hypia isn't good enough technically for that roleOriginally posted by SpeedyG View PostYou need 1 ball playing CH who attacks the ball (Agger/Hyypia) and 1 stopper/sweeper (Carra/????). Anything else would be unbalanced and leave us to open.

For sure, he's not great but that is his role. He's been more adventurous recently and TBH it hasn't hurt our game and has resulted in a few extra shots on goal. You are right though, he is no Agger/Hansen.Originally posted by captainfog View PostHypia isn't good enough technically for that roleThe Crushing Machine MKII

True and we know Rafa is looking for a better option to cover for Agger.Originally posted by SpeedyG View PostFor sure, he's not great but that is his role. As for the joker that says the team will be better without Carra, FFS what planet are you on? Job description = defender ie defend your goal at all costs. **** your fancy dans like Rio Up the Arse Ferdinand.[/QUOTE]
With all due respect, this is just not true anymore.
If you look at any young CB at any top team in the world, they can all play.
That does not mean they dont stay back and that 90% of their job is not defending. There needs to be a balance in the defense in that it should not be enough to put pressure on one CB. They both have to be able to play. Having two CB who can be threats when bringing the ball forward is becoming more and more important.
There are a few fossils left, Carra, Hyypia, Puyol to name a few but they belong in the past.
