Worrying report when you put it alongside the rumours about Hicks and Gillett having a big fall out, is Hicks now looking for an exit strategy from Liverpool. Moores wouldn't sell to Gillett because he didn't have the funds to buy us and finance the stadium build, only when Hicks jumped on board did Moores agree to sell, what with his expertise in building top quality stadiums.
As far as i'm aware owners can't have major stakes in two clubs who compete in the same competitions, i.e champions league. I'm fairly sure this rule is in place not just for domestic leagues but also european competitions. Very strange story and at a time that national newspapers (all be it **** rag standard) are running stories about a boardroom splits!

But why would you want to even consider owning another football club! Hicks just isn't rich enough to justify owning 2 big clubs, he's having to loan a huge amount to build our stadium, it just doesn't make any sense at all to me. The only two conclusions i can come up with is :-Originally posted by captainfog View PostTBH I think this sounds like a Hicks idea that he hasn't thought through properly. He doesn't understand the rules and as soon as its explained he'll drop it.
1 The stories are complete bollox (my preferred option)
2 There's an element of truth in the stories circulating about Hicks and Gillett falling out etc.

He strikes me as a 'bigger is better' type person. Why not have two clubs? They are in different countries? Plus I'm not sure how expensive Roma would be. Italian football is ****ed at the moment and I reckon Hicks saw it as an opportunity.
I know he comes across as the lovable one out of the two, however, that ****er made Bush a millionaire. That still sits uneasy with me.

He has never had a stake in CSKA. Not to say there wasn't a conflict of interests the way he had things set up for a time, but he never actually had any equity in the club, that would be an indisputable conflict.Originally posted by DJS View PostAbramovich has controlling stakes in both Chelsea and CSKA Moscow.Like blood on iron

Hicks not planning Roma bid
Spokesman refutes Reds co-owner's Italian interest
Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has denied holding an interest in buying Italian club Roma.
Widespread reports in Italy had claimed that Hicks met Roma president Franco Sensi to discuss taking a majority shareholding at the Stadio Olimpico.
The rumours led to the club's share price leaping eight per cent in value, but Hicks' spokesman Roy Winnick insists the speculation is wide of the mark.
"There is absolutely no truth whatsoever in the rumour that Mr Hicks is even considering investing in Roma Football Club," said Winnick.
American interest
Earlier in the day, Roma's controlling shareholder Italpetroli released a statement on Roma's official website saying the company had "been informed by a third party of the possible interest of an American businessman wanting to invest in AS Roma's capital".
The statement added: "As of yet, Italpetroli has not received, directly or indirectly, any interest nor offer from such investor, with the object of acquiring the majority package of AS Roma."
Hicks and fellow American businessman George Gillett completed a takeover of Liverpool back in February.
Uefa regulations prohibit an individual from having a majority shareholding in more than one club competing in the same competition.
Hicks' Southwest Sports Group also owns the Dallas Stars ice hockey team from the NHL and the Texas Rangers baseball franchise from MLB in the United States.
