Rafa was quoted before the derby basically saying that the staff chat with the players before games to see where they feel they are at - often you get players saying they maybe 70% fit, and are feeling tired or strained, but when it comes to a really big game you find the players all saying they are 100%.

Carragher being the player and man he is would have been desperate to play against Everton, and would have told them he was 100%, when clearly he wasn't.

But as you say Carra was probably so keen on playing he said he was fitter than he was.

Well I don't. Given Agger's form it may be a gamble he didn't need to take, but like I said in the immediate aftermath of the game, its Carra. Who could blame any manager for playing a character as big as Jamie Carragher in a derby match.

No-one in there right mind could have predicted he would play so badly. especially in a derby. I didnt even know carra COULD play as bad as that. Wont happen again any time soon though.
